SSGs (30 mins)

Set-Up: 2 x 30x20yd pitches set-up with pitch split into thirds with flat marker. 1 goal at each end central along with a 3yd gate in each corner

Organisation: 2 teams spilt evenly. 3v3s, 4v4s or 5v5s pending numbers. Floater can be used with odd number.

Rules: 3 x 3mins games. Players can score in normal goal for 2 or can dribble through corner gates for 1. Allows players to make more decisions in game and gets players dribbling the ball more.

2nd round of games same rules as above but teams must play through the thirds. 2touch defensive third, 1 touch middle third and all in within the final third to promote dribbling or quick strike on goal.

Out to In Control Box (20 mins)

Set-Up: 4 manneuqins create a central small box which is 10yds by 10yds, outside box is created with 4 corner markers only. and this box should be 25x25yds.

Organisation: 4 balls, 1 in each corner then 2 players at every corner for the 2 boxes.

Rules: Ball is played from outer box to players on inner box, all 4 corners/balls go at the same time. Inner box players receive the ball and take their 1st touch towards another corner. For ease, go in a clockwise direction, as per the pink lines. After 1.5mins change direction.

Progression:

1. Scan and Check: Have the 2nd player at the inner box corners hold their hand up with a number and the first player must scan and check their shoulders, shout out the number and receive and pass the ball.(Secondary overloading-mental preparation) If that goes well have the 1st inner players scan and check and see where the outer box player is, they are are closest to the ball they can play a 1-2 if not then the outer box receiver can just go and restart the play.

2. Support play: Have 2nd player on inner box play the diagonal pass out, as per the blue lines. Rotation for players would be outer corner, 2nd inner player, 1st inner player. This will allow for third man run and additional mental thinking.

If that progression goes well add a 1-2 in the corner before the ball gets played in.

8v8 (25 mins)

Set-Up: 7v7 size pitch / third of pitch. use full pitch that is available or create 60x40yd pitch.

Organisation: 2 teams: Blacks = 1-2-3-2 Yellows = 1-3-2-1-1.

Rules: 3sec restarts, corners must be short, throw-ins played quick etc. Once a team score they keep the ball and restart from their GK immediately.

Play 2x8mins games focus and stoppages should only relate to below coaching points.
