Football Problem:
After successfully making the play predictable and reducing forward passes we often missed out on the opportunities to win the ball back.
Objective:
In this session I aim to improve the ability of the front three and midfield players to win the ball back as high up the field as possible.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Session Organisation:
Red team receive from top server and play in one direction. They must play out with combinations to reach the opposite server.
Blues must aim to win the ball back as quickly as possible – If they are successful, they are to play to starting server/GK or drive into to end zone.
Blues can now start higher – forcing the server/GK to try and play through lines – How can Blue front line now tackle form the front and win the ball back.
Team Task:
Reds to try and play out with combinations to end server. Blue must with the ball back as soon as possible and either hit end target or drive into end zone.
Player Tasks:
1. When the opposition has the ball our front 7,11&9 to firstly look to keep the ball from moving past their ‘defensive’ unit for as long as possible.
2. Front 3 to look to regain possession in the final third and punish opposition.
Coaching Cues:
i. When opposition defenders are looking to play out 9,7&11 to block passing lanes firstly.
ii. If 7,11&9 feel that they can affect the ball they are to try and regain possession and quickly exploit the transition.

2. Front 3 to look to regain possession in the final third and punish opposition.
3. 6,8&10 to spoil/regain possession from opposition as often as possible whilst maintaining intelligent shape and distances.
Back 4 to come away with the ball in 1v1 situationsCoaching Cues:
i. When opposition defenders are looking to play out 9,7&11 to block passing lanes firstly.
ii. If 7,11&9 feel that they can affect the ball they are to try and regain possession and quickly exploit the transition.
iii. When the opposition have the ball inthe midfield third, closest 6,8 or 10 to show aggression and competitiveness toget the team back in possession.
iv. When 3 or 4 is engaged in a 1v1 other CB to offer cover in case they are beaten.
v. 2&5 to work hard to firstly prevent crosses but to come away with the ball and begin counter attack.
Important that whilst individuals are slowing the opposition down that units become organized behind or to the side of them.See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Session Organisation:
Red team play a 4-3-1 formation against a blue 2-2-3 formation.
One blue would push on into midfield 3 and 1 would play 1v1 against red 9 marking appropriate side.
Both teams pay to score at each end.

Passing Practice
Session Organisation:
Reds begin session by playing from target to target. All players remain locked in their zones apart from yellow magic players who can travel with width to support the CBs playing out.
Blues must slow pass further through the playing area.
Blues can now prevent forward play and stop the ball playing out – If the ball is won, they must play to end server
