Aim

To introduce and emphasis the improtance of agaility and quick feet, displaying how it can effect your game for the better.

Objective one

Detailed coaching points will allow the coach to show to the performers when is the best time to use their quick feet and how it can get them out of different situations.

Objective two

By the coach demonstrating the different types of touches they can use, it will display to the performer the proper technique and appropriatness of the said skill

Objective three

Logical progressions throughout the session will allow the performer to see clearly how it has progressed from something so simple into a full game.

The session will roughly last an hour.

Equipment

10 of each red and blue bibs

16 fully blown size 5 footballs

30 multi coloured plastic cones

2 7-a-side goals

2 small samba goal

11-a-side goal

Dynamics (5 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

Players will be inside the 18 yard box, moving around freely performing a number of different dynamic and static stretches that will be used to prepare their bodies for the session ahead of them.

The stretches will include content that will be used to prepare the specific parts of the body that is essential when used in football.

These movements include:-

Flamingo- participant balances one leg, cross the other over and grabs with hand, they then stretch up and bring the leg up with them as they extend their knee on the balanced leg stretching out the hip flexors.

Lollipop:- participant lunges to the side in order to stretch the satoris muscle. After 5 seconds the participant then twist the outstretched leg.

Lunges:- these will be performed in a walking motion with the performer taking three or 4 steps in between, the knee will remain two inches off the ground in order to to maintain stability. The chest will stay up and the knee and hip must stay in a straight line in order to achieve the correct stretch.

Squats:- the stretch will be used to prime the lower back muscles and gluteus Maximus. In order to do so, performers must ensure that their back is straight, chest remains up right.

Other movements such as the Russian Walk, Flickouts and small side steps are performed.

Skills box (with defenders) (10 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

Players will be spilt into two different colours, Blues will be the attackers with the balls first and the whites will be the defenders who are putting on the preassure.

The blues will be given various skills that the have to perform to get away from the defenders.

Defenders must ensure that their body position is putting them into awkward positions where the skill cannot be performed.

If the defenders gain posession of the ball, they can move the ball outside of the area. Attacker will then go and collect the ball and bring it back into the area.

Coaching Points

Some of the skill moves may include...

- V-turn= players rolls the ball into one way, but quickly rolls it back and plays to the opposite direction.

- Cryuff= player will cut the ball back with the inside of their foot, through their own legs and back the way they came.

- Iniesta= player will play the ball onto the opposite foot so that it can bounce off it and can run onto it.

- Other skills may include, Cuthberts, Zidanes and chops.

- Defenders need to make sure they are pressing quickly.

- Body position needs to be active and open to press them into the awkward area.

- Scanning to see where the attackers are.

- Small, short touches increases close control.

Adaptations

- Decease the size of the area by 5 yards each.

- Add in more defenders.

Cops and Robbers

Organizational / Instructions

Players will be split into twos and be seperated into each different groups.

They will then be asked who wants to be the cop and who wants to be the robber.

Robber will start of the ball and the aim is to stay away from the cop from outside area by dribbling around it.

If the cop gets the ball or tags the robber, they get the point but if the robber is able to stay away from the cop until the times runs out they get the point.

Coaching Points

Small touches are essential

Keping the head up

Bent knees ready for the ball

Nice neat turns aroudn the corner and not big touches

Use all parts of the foot

Plan ahead

Variation of skills

Agility to turn quickly to get away from the cop

The Broxi Bear (15 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

The coach will select two defenders to be the broxi bears, the rest will get a ball and line up in the waiting zone.

Aim of the game is to get to the other side without getting your ball taken off you, players will shout 'broxi broxi can you let me pass please' they can then say a different thing to get a free pass for example 'if your wearing blue shoes'

Attackers must get themselves into the safe area

If the defenders clear their ball away or tag them they will become a broxi bear

If the attackers lose their ball, they will join the broxi bears

The game will go on until there is only one man left

Coaching Points

Making sure you keep the ball close to your body

Keep your head up making sure you know where the attackers are

Using both parts of your feet

Small touches no big touch

Dribble into space

Variation of skills

Small touches to keep the ball under control and no preassure on you

Adaptations

The bears can only move side to side

Full game (10 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

The game that will be played will be a normal full game, it will be used to see if the players will start to drop deeper into the spaces and spreading it wide to create the chances that their team needs.

A floater may be introduced into the game so that an overload can be introduced and the deep midfielder of the team can find more space to play the ball to its team in the hopeful attacking positions.

Coaching Points

- Keeping the head scanning throughout the game will be crucial for the teams to find the tight spaces to play into.

- Using the floating player at the correct times will allow the team to move into better areas easier and faster.

- Remaining on the toes at all times will make sure that the passes will be quick and moved onto better positions within less time.

- Weight of pass has to be perfect in order to again, allow the play to flow and to allow the team to move around the park quicker.

- The team must work hard for each other so that the spaces will be open up in the defending side.

- Pulling the team out with fake runs will encourage the space to open up more frequently for the attacking team.

- Using the agility to turn away from your marker quickly.

- Small touches to keep that ball under control when dribbling.

Adaptations

- Put a touch limit on the game.

- Potential addition of a floater

Cool down (5 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

During the stretches, the coach will recap on what has been covered with an answer and question of the session.

All stretches that are performed are as followed...

- All stretches will be performed for 30 seconds with the captain informing the team of the next stretch or when to switch leg.

- Player will sit on the ground with both feet touching each other, they will then apply light preassure to the knees and force them lightly to the ground.

- Players stay seated, will straighten one leg and bring the other leg over. The leg that is over the other will be pulled towrads the players chest in order to stretch out the back of the hamstring.

- They will then move to the side of their body and bring up on of their legs up to try and touch the very bottom of their back. This will stretch out the back of the hamstring of the player.

- Lastly, the player will bring up their leg into a similar position to the pigeon pose in yoga and will bring their back up straight up so that their chest comes through.
