Set up: 20x15 grid, team split into 2 even teams. Have multiple grids to ensure no long lines if necessary.
Description: 2v2 defending, game starts with rlue team. 2 red attackers and first green defender is live when the ball is put into play, then the second trailing green defender can run and get back when the first red player touches the ball. Looking for first defender to slow the attack and the second defender to track back and cover for the first defender. Encourage the red team to win the ball back quickly if they lose it.
Coaching Points:
1) Appropriate timing
2) Cues: when to tackle (bad touch by attacker, close to sideline, attacker head down, back is turned)
3) Appropriate body position in approach
4) Pressure on ball, cover in behind
5) Hunt after loss of possession (win ball back as quickly as possible)
Progressions:
1. Adjust the size of the grid. Add 1 trailing defenders. 2v3
2. Add 2 trailing defenders. 2v4

Set Up: 30x25 grids
Description: 3v2 situation in the attack, with trailing defender.
Introduction: Starts with Green in attack with trailing 3rd red defender, who may get involved when ball passes red cones to make it a 3v3. If defenders win the ball they look to counter quickly to the 2 small counter goals.

2. Early decisions to dribble, shoot, or pass.
3. Communication
4. Creativity in movement off the ball (constant mobility)

Focus on players recognizing times to counter numbers up and defensive principles.
2v2 Warm-Up (15 mins)
Set Up: 25x20 grid, 2 even teams. Coach has balls and starts each round.
Description: 2v2 Start with coach starting with the ball, both teams send in 2 players. Play until ball leaves the grid. If the defenders win the ball they can score in opposite goal. Focus on 1st defender pressure on the ball, 2nd defender covers in behind.
