B lays back to A

    Y Passing Drill

    Method:

    • A pass to B, then follow the pass
    • B moves off cone and controls with back foot, then pass to C, then follow pass
    • C dribbles back to start
    • Next set A passes to B, then B passes to D
    Progression:1-2 passes1 touch passes

    Method:

    • A pass to B & follows pass
    • B pass to C & follow pass
    • C pass to D & follow pass
    • D pass to E & follow pass
    • E pass shoots!
    Progression 1: Change to C shoots instead of E. Can players use both feet to shoot?

    Progression 2:
    1-2 passes at each cone. Player plays ball in front of other player - do 1 touch if possible!


    Coaching Points:

    • Open body shape
    • Movement away from cone
    • Control using back foot
    • Good weight and accuracy of pass
    • Communication - Verbal & Non-Verbal
    • Player E should wait until pass made before moving past the cone - other wise they are offside!

    B lays back to A

    B plays through pass to C

    C must stay on side by holding run (before cone) until pass made. Run onto pass and shoot


    Coaching Points:

  • Open body shape
  • Movement away from cone
  • Control using back foot
  • Good weight and accuracy of pass
  • Communication - Verbal & Non-Verbal
  • Only take 1 touch before shooting
  • Keep head down. Follow through. Make sure to hit the target! Go across the GK
  • Off sides count - so coach must watch player does not go past cone before shot taken

    Strength Work & Shielding

    Method:

    Players use different parts of their body to push against each other

    1. Face each other, put hands on shoulders and PUSH

    2. Shoulder to shoulder - PUSH! Change shoulders so pushing both right & left

    3. Back to back - PUSH!

    4. Ball between 2 - protect the ball

    Coaching Points:

    • When protecting the ball, player should have their body in-between themselves and the ball, with side on body shape, using one arm to push attacker away and the opposite foot to control the football

    4 v 4 + 4

    Method:

    • 4 v 4 + 4 Positional Rondo
    • Reds v Yellow on inside
    • Green team on outside are with whoever has the ball
    • Change after 2 mins, Reds or Yellows out, Greens in
    • Outside players should move along their line to support play

    PROGRESSION: Position Specific 

    • Can put players in their positions. Eg: GK at bottom, striker at top, right/left wing on edges.
    • Can players get the ball from bottom to top, playing through the middle
    • Keep score - every time players get ball from GK to Striker, they get 1 goal. Keep score. Team with least goals does forefit
    • If too complicated or if players not able to progress, have an over load on the inside. E.g. 4v2 on inside. Then the outside players are only with the 4 inside players. Change after certain length of time

    Coaching Points:

    • Communication - verbal & non verbal - LOUD!!
    • Good weight and accuracy of pass
    • Movement - on outside and inside
    • Can players get heads up and play correct team
    • Use outside players. They can not be tackled
    • Recycle ball backwards to keep possession
    • Use 'shielding' where required
    • Controlling ball with back foot to progress forward, where possible
    • Creating space - keeping pitch as high and wide as possible
    • Scanning - constantly getting pictures of surroundings

    Coaching Points:

    • Working on everything we've done earlier in the session. Encourage possession & shielding
    • Body shape when defending
    • Accurate passing
    • Good control
    • Communication - verbal/nonverbal/loud
    • Movement 
    • Creating space "Width & Depth"
    • Scanning
    • Players can play the ball backwards and use the GK, which will help 'possession'
