Give the advantage (numbers) to Blues whilst attacking down the flanks

Focus on RB to start

What should he do if being attacked down the wing?

How should he deal with this

Where on the pitch should he send the BWP

Working on his body position ( How he's delaying the attack, defending skills)

Who becomes the secondary defender

Where do they go

Who becomes the recovery runner Where do they go Why?

Use the GK's communication with these players to help with the decision making

Make sure the Red's FB's close the attack down quickly to prevent a shooting opportunity

Principle's of Play

Gk starts with a kick down the middle of the pitch

Blue CH receives ther ball & quickly passes to BWP

What is the trigger for RLB to move?:

As soon as CH has touched the ball(back foot/body position)l this could tell the RLB which side the next attack could be

How has he acted to this trigger?:

Can he move quickly to Deny space for the BWP to run into? What type of run is he doing? (Curved, which way? To send player out of play or into the midfield for support)

Repeat several times so you have different outcomes for RLB to decide which suits him best in the position of BWP

Where on the pitch has he moved to?:

If his reation is quick how high has he stopped the attack? What are the benefits doing this regarding the RLB's priorities. Let him decide by repeating several times.

If BWP player is further up the pitch:

How does RLB react? Delaying the run of BWP? His options could be to curve his run from inside/out so that he's also denying space for player to exploit. Or curve his run from outside/in this could be where the RCM player could come to support the LB.

Once the LB has repeated the exercise start coaching RCM & RCH in relation to where they should be on the pitch ie covering space or watching out for runs from the BS or midfeild. How close should they be? Why are they moving closer to the empty space? Let them decide by repeating the PoP

If the BWP has the ball level with the LB must now start using the 6s's to prevent BWP from crossing the ball in. Keep on working on the RLB's body position as to where he wants to send BWP. IF BWP has lots of success in getting down the wing prehaps when LB closes play down his body position is tot let him pass or come inside where he has a support player. Or he's closed him down quickly so the only option for Bluesuee is to pass back.
