Organization

- Players Line up in a single file line in the centre of a 20 x 20 square

- Players must be 2m apart

Activity

- The players line up in a single file line in front of the coach

- The coach names the line either side as different football teams, cartoons, superheroes etc

- The coach will then run through some actions that the players have to perform on the shout

- Both hands- Touch the floor with both hands

- Up - Jump

- Left - Put your left hand left

- Spin - 180 turn

- On the call of the teams the players will sprint to that line and back

- Make it competitive and give each player 3 points, coins, lives to start with. Each time they are in the last 2 back to the middle line they lose a point

- Manage the game so that there is never a player that gets to 0 and all continue to play

- Ask the players at the end of 3 minutes how many coins they have

Progression

- All calls are opposite

Progression

- Add the ball in with players doing different ball manipulations when in line.

Coaches Emphasis

Session 1 (15 mins)

Organization

 - A small group of players at the half way line with a ball

 - A small group of players wide right 10 yards inside the half

 - Add a mannequin 10 yards in front of the wide player

Activity

 - The player central will play the ball wide to the wide player who has dropped off to create the space to receive

 - The wide player will receive and beat the defender

 - The central player will make two runs, one to lose the defender and the 2nd to attack the cross

The objective for the players is to find the fastest way forward and have a positive end result. This focuses on the quality of the cross and the finish. What sort of pass do we need out wide? Is there acceleration after beating the player? is the cross firm? Is the cross in the air? what sort of touch do we need to finish?

Progression

- Is there another way we can get in to the crossing position? Task the players with thinking about how else we can combine?

 - Create a challenge for the players to score goals

Session 2 (15 mins)

Organization

 - Use one half of the 7v7 field attacking one goal

 - Place a full back 5 yards in field from the touchline at the halfway line

 - Place a mannequin 5 yards in front  and a winger 2 yards behind the mannequin

 - One striker will start 5 yards from the edge of the area with a cone 3 yards either side of them

 - One CM will start in line with the full back on the centre spot

Activity

- The session starts with the FB playing the ball off the rebounder and receiving it back

- This will trigger a movement from the winger either inside or outside

 - If the winger moves outside the striker will come to the closest cone, if the winger moves in side the striker will move to the furthest cone

 - The full back will draw the defender in and then play the pass to the winger

 - If inside they will play a 1-2 around the defender and then get the cross in, if outside the FB will play the pass and overlap the winger who will return the ball for the FB to cross

 - The striker will do 2 movements, the first will be the opposite of the winger and the 2nd will be to the opposite post e.g If the winger moves outside the striker will cone to the closest cone, then spin out to attack the ball at the back post.

 - The CM will do the opposite to the striker to create two attackers in the area

The objective for the players is to find the fastest way forward and have a positive end result. With 1 defender and 2 wide players we are looking to combine (Quickest way forwards) and cross (End result) The focus here should be on wide play and the combination. What is the best receiving shape? what sort of pass are we looking for, what is the distance from the defender when we pass the ball? If we are overlapping can the player with the ball create the space for the overlap?

Progression

- Is there another way we can get in to the crossing position? Task the players with thinking about how else we can combine?

 - Create a challenge for the players to score goals

Session 3 (15 mins)

Organization

 - Start with  players on the field

 - CM = Central on the Halfway Line, RW = Wide 10 yards in to the half, FWD = 15 yards from goal central, LW = Halfway line with the ball

Activity

- The left winger has won the ball and is driving forward in to the space, once at the mannequin they will turn and play out to the CM

 - The CM will  open up and play to the opposite winger in 1 of 2 ways

1. The winger will run in behind the mannequin and the ball will be played in to their path

2. The winger will drop in to receive and the ball will be played to their feet where they will then beat the mannequin

 - The striker will make a two part run, first movement to lose the defender and the 2nd to drive in to the space

 - The opposite winger will also move in to meet the cross

The objective for the players is to find the fastest way forward and have a positive end result. We are looking for the players to understand that we may need to be patient to get to where we want to go. Why is the mid position important? What movement do we need from the wide player to create space? what sort of body shape does the wide player need? What sort of pass are we looking for?

Progression

- Is there another way we can get in to the crossing position? Task the players with thinking about how else we can combine?

 - Create a challenge for the players to score goals
