Fall ODP Week 4 1st Session (10 mins)

Set Up

Set up large rectangular grid with five cones at each end as shown in the diagram. Split players up into two teams. Each team takes a side.

 

Instructions

Players are ‘safe’ on their own side. The goal of the game is for players to capture the other team’s cones and bring them to their own side. If a player goes onto the opponents side to try to capture a cone and is tagged they must sit down wherever they were tagged. A player can be rescued if a teammate comes by and tags them. Once a player is rescued, both players may walk back to their own side safely. If a player is in the opponents territory but has their hand on one of the cones at the end, they are safe. Once they pick up the cone and try to take it back they can be tagged.

 

This game can be played with running or by specifying different dynamic locomotions for players to do such as speed walking, galloping, or skipping in order to move. Using different dynamic locomotions works best for getting players warmed up.

 

Emphasis

There are many different strategies in this game, for example players can go into opponents territory for a ‘decoy’ run which takes attention away from teammates who can sneak by to get to a cone. Teams can decide if they want to play more offensively or defensively.

Moves of Week skill

 

Running with the ball with the Inside of the foot

 

The players run with the ball using the iside of both feet with quick touches on the ball. The exercise stimulates the contact of the ball and inside of the foot ball control. Progress the exercise by requesting a higher rhythm and quickness of execution

 

Emphasis

Focus on using both the inside of both feet.

Players staying on their toes

Knees bent

Being in control of the soccer balls and not having players chase the soccer ball

Ball Mastery, Speed, Passing and receiving

Purpose: To improve touch, control, and passing while running with the ball and to improve receiving and passing skills.

 

Set Up: Players form a small group at the opposite end of the lanes, with a ball at each group. The is lanes is about 15 x 10 yards

Instructions: A player from each group each groups runs with the ball using their outside of their foot, and gives an inside push pass to the next player at the opposite end of the lane.

 

Players Tips: Use short quick steps to incrfease repetiotions and to devcelop touch when running with the ball, develop ankle, knee and hip flexibility.

 

Coaches Tips: Coaches can adjust the size of the grid to suit the nedds and abilities of the players.

Small Sided Games 2v2 3v3

 

Ensure coaches have plenty of soccer balls on hand to maintain the temp of the game

 

Rotate to ensure all players play in 2v2 and 3v3 game sitution

 

Set Up

Set up two fields 20m x 15 m with goals at each end.

 

Emphasis

High tempo

This is a free game which should stimulate expression, initiative and the creativity of the players.

Encourage the players to take each other on and run into space to score.

The aim is develop their technique and individual tatical play

Encourage players to use the dribbling techniques they have learnt.
