3v3 Mini Soccer (10 mins)

3v3 Mini Soccer Warm-up:

Grid: 32 x 25 Yards with 6 yard end zones..

Progression:

i. (Youngers) One attacker must stay in shooting zone. In order for goal to count striker must touch the ball. Switch roles after every 2 goals.

ii. (Olders) Striker can't score, but ball must be layed off

iii. Striker must lay it off first time for goal to count.

When is the best time to go forward?

Right after you win the ball. As team who just lost it is out of position. In Game#2 and #3, midfielders need to make runs forward as ball is played to striker. Need to be supporting the target player ASAP.

Stop n Start + Change of Direction Game:

Defender plays ball to attacker and overlaps. Attacker dribbles with speed and has to score in small goals only after they pass the 6 yard zone. Player has to dribble past big center cone before choosing to go to a goal.

Station 3: rossing & Finishing (15 mins)

Crossing and Finishing Progression:

1) A takes diagonal touch and finishes on goal while C is the chaser and provides pressure on shooter without winning the ball.

2) B takes a diagonal touch down the line and plays 2v1 (A+B vs C). A looks to get open while B is trying to prevent B from penetrating towards goal and preventing pass to A.

(Purpose is not for defender to keep winning, need to teach decision making for players on the ball)

Rotation: A > B > C

3) Switch servers

Coaching Points: Can finish laces across the goal to far post, or finish inside of the foot near post.On the cross, players need to finish near post with front foot. Why? if they let it come across body, it's more difficult and gives opportunity for defender to win the ball.

Station 4: 1v1 Defending Technical Warm-up (10 mins)

1v1 Defending with Technical Warm-up.

1) Have defenders start opposite side of goal and they have to defend the shot by rounding their runs, closing down quickly and forcing them wide. Important to close down but not dive in.

* Have other grid exactly the same but mirroring so players work on defending different angles.

Coaching points: Close down quickly, low stance and and round your run. What happens if you run straight at attacker? (goal is wide open)

*Teach what goal side means!

Defenders need to be tenacious
