Shooting under pressure -
Continue with set-up as per technical element.
The player who now passes the ball becomes a defender and immediately applies pressure to player receiving the ball. Player has to shoot before the cones.
Progressions -
- Player also has option to attack defender and take them on. Once past the cones they have a one on one with the keeper (no tackling from defender)
- Additional pressure from other shooter waiting to take turn (one defender advancing, another from the side)
- Player starts further back and has to run to meet the ball before defender gets there
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Game -
6 v 6, 40 x 30. Split pitch into thirds using cones or disc markers.
Players in the shaded area cannot be tackled and must stay in the area. They are encouraged to shoot as often as possible as soon as they receive the ball (longer shots)
Ensures players are rotated into this area regularly.
Progressions -
- Other player in the middle third can apply pressure
- Middle section becomes a normal play area with unopposed shooting moving to final thirds ( 1 on 1 with keeper, shorter, more controlled shooting)
- Pressure can be applied in final third
Key Points -
Continue emphasis on arms out for balance, eyes on the ball, striking ball with follow through, laces for power.
