This session is designed to improve our overlapping in the when WE have the ball in Phase 3. It also emphasizes decision making in 2v1 situations.

Objective: to help develop tactical understanding.
Organization: 10x10 grid (adjust size depending on ability) with 6 players.
Instructions: play 4v2 + 1 keep away in the 10x10 grid.

Key Coaching Points: 1. Angles; 2. Distance; 3. Timing; 4. Lines; 5. Situations; 6. Have that central +1 player look for space between the defenders. Now the external players have options wide (right and left), deep and internally(+1).

Objective: improve our ability to create and combine in 2v1 situations.
Organization: Players in 8x16 grid play 2v1.
Instructions: first attacking player passes the ball to the second attacking player then overlaps. Second attacking player commits the defender then either passes or beats her 1v1. The 2 must get across the opposite line under control. If the defender wins the ball she can counter attack.
Variations: Play 2v1+1 in multiple zones. Play 2v2. Add wall passes as an option.
Key Coaching Points:
1. Quality of passing and receiving;
2. Timing of movement;
3. Commit the defender before making the pass.
4. Supporting Attacker 1.

Objective: Improve our ability to take advantage of overloads and fininshing.
Organization: Full size goals in 24x30 yard area. One line with balls by a post. The player has teammates out wide. Other team has 2 players one by each post.
Instructions: Blue player dribbles out then passes to either line of red players. They go 2v1. If blue player wins the ball or her keeper gets it the one blue from each side can enter to make it 3v2.
Variations: Add numbers to make it 3v2 to 4v3 etc...
Key Coaching Points:
1. Team with numbers up should always create a chance to score
2. Combination play and working together to beat opponent.
3. Find the free player.
3v1 Rondo (15 mins)
Objective: improve our passing, receiving, movement without the ball, and positional awareness.
Organization: 3v1 in 8x8 grid. Adjust based on skill level.
Instructions: players keep possession in 1 or 2 touch. Focus on quality passes, receiving ball across body, movement to support.
Variations: (1) make it a competition against other grids, (2) first team to 15 consecutive passes wins.
