Session working on attacking overloads and dealing with attacks when overloaded as defenders.

Set Up: Four 10 x 10 boxes as shown with two players in each box. Defenders start on red cone
Activity: One defender goes to win the ball, 3 v 1 is created by a player joining the box the ball is being possessed in as shown by player 3. Players must complete minimum of 3 passes to allow them to play to another box. Players go back to box they started in when ball moves from box to box. New defender is sent in each time ball goes box to box. Point for every time they succesfully play out of box
Progression: Start with three players in each box and send two defenders. Two players join to create 5 v 3
Coaching Points: Support angle/distance, body shape to receive ball, quality of touch away from pressure, accuracy & weight of pass, consistent information (man-on, time, turn etc...)

Set Up: 22 x 22 yard diamond [size may vary] with off set cones 10 yards back from the points. Two balls, one at each end and there are 2 players at each cone, except for the two side cones, where there is only one player.
Activity: Player A plays to B, and follows his pass. Player B opens up body, recieves the ball across body and plays to C, C to D an D to E. Each player follows their pass. Work on different ways for players to receive the ball, including on the turn.

Setup: Field is 50 x 44, divided into 2 halves; equal teams [number can vary]; [balls, pinnies, cones, goals]
Activity: GK on offensive team roles out to one of the backs, who play 3 v 2 in their defensive half. When the chance arises, they look to play into the striker in the other half of the field. When the ball is played into the attacking half, one of the defenders can enter in to make it a 3 v 2 advantage for the attacking team. If the 3rd man running in gets the ball, they need to finish with 1 touch. After an attack, the 3rd man runner comes off, and a defender for the other team enters their defensive half to start activity in the other direction.
Progressions: [a] add wingers who can only link up with the strikers, with a defender still entering in and attacking the cross

Setup: Field will now be 75 x 44 divided into 3 zones, teams will play 7 v 7 with GK and possibly wing players [balls, pinnies, cones, goals].
Activity: We add two central midfielders and the object of the game is the same, defenders can move into midfield and midfielders can move into attack to provide overloads, but we keep all 3 defenders in the game now. Opposing wingers can come in and attack crosses from the opposite side.
Progressions: [a] touch restrictions in zones, [b] remove zones and play free.
Coaching: link up play, movement off ball, creating space to shoot, good defensive prinicples, technique of passing and crosses, quality of clearences and headers.
