Part 1 (15 mins)

4 Rondos all the way up the pitch. Minimum of 3 v 1 in each rondo. Can be more depending on numbers. Work for 30 seconds. At the end of the rondo the defenders in each square will run to the far poles and then complete a box run there and back. Once completed they will run to the next rondo. During this time the 3 attackers in the rondos will get a ball and dribble it up the double poles and then dribble back before waiting for the next defender to arrive. Complete 4 rondos and 4 box runs to be finished.

Make sure everyone has a go in the middle.

Key Objectives:

Quality passes and bravery on the ball to move the defender.

Desire to win the ball back.

Part 2 (20 mins)

3 v 3+1.

Possession Rondo with an advantage for the defending team. The extra defender is the only player who can win the ball back with a tackle and can put pressure on the ball carrier. The designated opposite team can only win the ball back via an interception. Work for 2 minutes and then complete a full pitch run. Change the designated extra defender and play again.

Progression:

Say that the designated opposite team can also tackle after the ball carrier takes a certain number of touches. This will make both the attacking and defending team think. In possession if you dribble the ball you may potentially entice more opposition players and attract them towards you which can potentially create the free man and open up an easier pass. This means the defender has to think about how he adds pressure to the ball.

Key Objectives:

Attacking team- Support players should look to get out of the defending players cover shadow. They should constantly be looking at space and how to create passing lanes.

Bravery on the ball. Trust yourself to shield it and to find clever passes.

Line breaking passes. Disguise passes. Creatvity.

Defending team- Cover spaces cleverly. Do not always have to follow man. Recognise when to come in and press and angles of support to the defensive player putting pressure on the ball.

Player applying pressure should think about angles and body position of where to press to make passing angle difficult.

Part 3 (15 mins)

Four Phase Conditioning Game:

1.) Ball starts by player 1. He plays a ball into the midfielders who then play a one-two and then feeds the striker. He then takes one touch before looking to get a shot off on goal.

2.) Ball is then played into the next midfielder who feeds the opposite striker. He looks to beat the 1st striker who now becomes a defender and looks to get a shot off under pressure.

3.) The two strikers now both become defenders and the two midfielders become attackers. They will receive the ball from player three and attack 2 v 2.

4.) When the 2 v 2 ends it becomes a 4 v 4. Player 4 will drive forward and the game is live from there. Play to an end. When this finishes every player who took part at some stage in this exercise will run to the opposite goal and back to their original position.

Every player should then move up to a different area when finished.

Outside Pole players move to the central pole players.

Central Pole Players move to the midfielders.

Midfielders move to the strikers position.

Strikers move to the outside pole positions and to the back of the queue. Players who have not been move up the queue.

Work for 15 Minutes.

Key Objectives:

Finishing

Combinations in small and larger attacks.

Recognition of space and how best to attack it.

How to defend individualy and as a unit in smaller and bigger units. To be brave and deal with 1 v 1 situations.
