Description

Aim:

- To develop individual foot skills and attacking moves, applying them effectively in a 1 v 1 situation.

- Decision making: Do i go 1 v 1 or pass ?

 

Arrival Activities (0-5 minutes):

Juggling - can you reach 5 juggles or more

Physical movement with the ball (20 mins)

INTENSITY: Moderate - high ACTIVITY TIME: 2 mins REST: 30 secs INTERVALS: 8

 

Activity:

- 3 red zones and 3 yellow zones as shown.

- Split the group into two equal teams.

- Each player has a ball and dribbles around the whole area.

 

1. Footskills

- Players must dribble into a zone and perform different footskills - inside and outside, toe taps, soccer boxes,drags, attacking moves.

- Any player that does not get into the square must continue to dribble the ball until a square becomes free.

2. Move onto Attacking Moves

- Players now perform attacking moves in the boxes

a) Stop & go

b) Matthews

c) Recap of previous

 

Progression

-Players go 1 v 1 (black v yellow). Black attempt to score in red square, while yellows attempt to score in the yellow squares (Keep rotating partnerships).

 

Coaching Points:

1) Close control

2) Use all surfaces of the foot

3) Keep your head up and use periheral vision

4) Beat the defender with attacking moves, accelerate into open space.

5) Balance when keeping thee ball, agility when moving and turning quickly.

1 v 1 - Transitions (15 mins)

INTENSITY: Moderate - high ACTIVITY TIME: 30 secs REST: 30 secs INTERVALS: 25

 

Activity:

- 1 v 1

- Attacker dribbles at the defender, performs an attacking move and attempts to score in one of the two goals.

- If defender wins the ball they dribble to the end line.

- Keep rotating positions each interval

 

Progression:

1. Players must do an attacking move before they score - worth (5) goals if successful

 

Coaching Points:

1) Aim - use your upper body to defend the ball - can you put your opponents off balance.

2) Close control

3) Short opposite movements to create a yard of space.

4) Balance and strength, be able to hold the defender off the ball

5) Identify the space and accelerate into it

Activity

- Play 2 v 2 on each field with 2 support players on the sides of the fields as shown.

- Team in possession can use either support player.

- Game is about decision making: do players make the pass or go 1 v 1?

 

Progression:

1. Rotate support players

2. Players must do an attacking move before they score - worth (5) goals if successful

 

 

Coaching Points:

1) Can players beat their opponent 1 v 1 then look to make the pass or score.

2) Be prepared to play under pressure

3) Decision making do they pass or dribble?

4) Less coaching, let them play.

INTENSITY: Moderate ACTIVITY TIME: 6 mins REST: 1 min INTERVALS: 3

 

Activity:

- 5 v 5 with GKs

- plus 1 v 1 station

- Free play

- Normal FIFA rules apply

- Keep rotating positions.

 

Scoring:

- Normal goal scoring rules

- When a player scores they select a player from the opposition team to go 1 v 1 and earn an additional (5) goals for their team.
