(Start with only 2 on the inside if working with a young or inexperienced group)
Each player on the outside has a ball. At the same time, all 4 pass the ball into one of the 4 players on the inside. The inside player plays it back to the first player and then runs to the next cone, to receive a pass from the next outside player etc.
Let the same 4 players stay in the middle for a set amount of time and then switch them.
After everyone has been in the middle a couple of times, switch the direction and do it again.
*accuracy + timing are important in order for the drill to work.
*have a number of balls at each outside cone in case players misstrap or misspass.
*can do in a triangle instead, if numbers don't work in a square

Player A and Player C have balls.
Player A passes to player 1. Player 1 dribbles the ball to the next inside cone and passes to player B. They then run to the next cone and receive a pass from player C, and dribble to the next cone to pass to player D. Player 2 does the exact same starting with a pass from player C.
Let the same 2 players stay in the middle for a set amount of time and then switch them.
After everyone has been in the middle a couple of times, switch the direction and do it again.
*Can do it in a triangle if numbers don't work with a square.

Red team cannot leave the yellow box
Red team works together to stop blue team's passes. Intercepting only - no tackles (must maintain distance)
Blue team can move freely in shaded space. They cannot enter into the yellow box.
Objective is for blue team to successfully pass the ball through the yellow box. They can also pass the ball around the shaded space, those passes just don't count as a point. Every successful pass through the yellow box = 1 point. If the red team intercepts, they pass the ball back out to blue and the drill continues.
Switch the red team to 2 new players after about 2 mins.
Emphasize:
- communication between 2 defending players to close space
- movement of blue players! They should be moving for each other and should not stay on the same side of the box the whole time.

Set up the same on both sides. Balls at both cone A and C.
Player on cone A passes to cone B. B passes a long pass down to cone D (sweep hit or upright hit). Player D receives in motion going forward and then turns to pass the ball with a lifted pass through the cone gate to player E. Player E shoots on goal, and then becomes player B.
Next one starts at cone C and drill goes to the right.
Rotation:
C-->D-->E-->B and on the other side A-->D-->E-->B. At the end player B chooses to go to either C or A, so that they can try the other side.
*Player A and C pass one ball to player B, and receive one ball from player B before moving on to cone D.

passing through gates (10 mins)
Set up a small field with a number of goals. In pairs, players run around passing to each other through the goals. Passes can go through in either direction. Once a pair passes through one goal, they must move to another set of goals (can't go through the same one twice in a row).Make it a competition: how many goals can you and your partner get? Which pair can get through all the goals first?
