Warm Up (10 mins)

Organization:

1. 20x20 area set up as shown

2. One ball per player

Instructions:

1. Players juggle the ball using different surfaces dictated by the coach

2. Rotation

a. Thighs Only - thigh, catch, thigh catch. One point each time they catch the ball. Two thighs in a row equals three points.

b. Feet only - bounce, laces, catch. One point each time they catch the ball. Two laces in a row equals three points.

c. Combination - thigh, bounce, laces, catch. One point each time they catch the ball. No bounce equals three points.

3. Each round is 2 mins long

Coaching Points:

1. Body positioning

2. Correct body/foot surface

3. Drop the ball, do not throw it in the air

4. Can you keep the ball at eye level

1. P - Competition: the most is allotted time with specific surface

Activity 1 (10 mins)

Organization:

1. 20 x 20 yard area setup as shown

2. One ball per player

Instructions:

1. Coach will demonstrate the move at game speed then broken down for players to see. 

2. Players dribble ball around area using other players as mock defenders, practicing the move with their right foot then their left.

3. Coach will allow players to work for an allotted amount of time then move on to the next move.

Coaching Points:

Dribbling - Roll

1. Takethe ball inside the opponents tackling radius

2. Dragthe ball across the body with sole of the foot

3. Takethe ball past the defender with inside of the opposite foot

Dribbling - Push And Run

1. Dribble straight at the defender

2. Push the ball one side of the opponent with outside of the foot

3. Run round the opposite side and collect the ball

Dribbling - Scissors

1. Move the foot around the front of the ball finishing on the outside of the ball

2. Drop the shoulder as the foot plants

3. Take the ball away using the outside of the opposite foot

Progression:

1. Take away half of the balls and allow players to apply pressure

Activity 2 (10 mins)

Organization:

1. 20 x 10 yard area set up as shown

2. 3 players (2 Attackers, 1 Defender) set up as shown

3. 1 ball per attacker

Instructions:

1. Attacking players start at opposite ends of area

2. Each attacker starts dribbling toward opposite end of area simultaneously

3. Defender must try to stop players from reaching opposite end

4. Attackers score one point for each successful run across area

5. If defender dispossesses attacker, and keeps ball in grid, they switch roles

6. First player to 10 points wins

Coaching Points:

1. Controlled approach

2. Know when to run with the ball and when to dribble

3. Engage defender at speed by attacking front foot

4. Timing of move – just outside tackling radius

5. Change of speed and direction

6. Cut into the space behind defender

Progressions:

P – Both attackers start from the same end line, and attack the same end

R – Defender must stay in the middle for 10 repetitions, even if they win the ball

Activity 3 (15 mins)

Organization:

1. 20x10 grid set up as shown

2. Separate players into two teams (A & B)

3. Multiple balls

Instructions:

1. Player B passes the ball into Player A. Once the ball is received Player B can step on to the field to play defense creating a 1v1 situation. If players cannot pass the ball to the opposing player, the coach should pass the ball in.

2. The game is complete with the ball goes out of bounds or a goal is scored. Goals are scored by dribbling the ball through the two tall cones.

3. Players continue this rotation for an allotted amount of time or reps. Once completed, teams switch sides and begin playing again.

Coaching Points:

1. Head Up

2. Big touch vs small touch

3. Can you use a move

Progressions:

1. Player earn an additional point if they use a move to beat the defender

2. Allow players to shoot to score

Scrimmage (15 mins)

Organization:

1. 30x20 area set up as shown

2. Two even teams

3. One ball

Instructions:

1. Two teams play, trying to score a goal

2. Field positioning

3. Making eye contact

4. When to pass vs when to dribble

Progression/Regression:

R - Take a player off the field, play 3v3
