Small-Sided (25 mins)

Organization:

In a 40x40 area players will play 5v5 with each team having two respective wall players. These wall players are target players and support players for the team in posession. To score a point, when you gain posession you must connect with any of the wall players on your team. Once you have playe the ball to one side you have now established who the "Target player" (opposite bumper player from the first one you played) is to score a goal.To score you must connect with the target player.

Progression:

To score, players must find the Target player, the target player must lay-off 1-touch to a 3rd man to score the point.

Coaching Points:

Emphasize the importance of making space for the ball to be played in to the target.

Timing of runs off of the target to receive the ball off of the target need to precise.

Target player is active on the bumpers creating angles to receive the ball.

In posession, even though we are looking to play the target, be patient and do not force it.

Expanded Small-Sided (20 mins)

Organization:

Half of the field is used with two target goals. The defensive team is set with a 1-4-1 shape, while the attacking team is in a 3-3 (1-2-3, part of a 4-3-3). The play always begins from the 6, and players are going to goal. If defensive teams wins the ball they are to score on counter goals.

Coaching Points:

Emphasize the importance of patience in possession and not forcing play to the 9.

The 9 needs to time his runs appropriately to hold the ball up.

The 10 and 8 respectively need to make sure they are supporting the 9, especially when the 9 is in process of receiving the ball.
