Explore Rondo

Focus: Quick Attack Using 2v1 Principles. Specifically - Give N'Go / Horizontal / Backdoor

Boys play out Rondo - 7 v 3 (Can tweak numbers). 2 x 6 mins.

Change team of 3 every 90 seconds or when they win the ball & make 4 passes

Questions - When do they work, what are key points, how can we use them more effectively

1v2

Counter Attack & Counter Cover - 2 x 5 mins then 3 mins. Followed by 2 x 5 then 3 mins

Player A Hits or Aerial passess to B, C is live on reciept to defend, A tracks back to create 1 v 2

B goes to goal 1 to score.

If the 2 win the ball they go straight to goal to score.

Once dead ball, another starts again in the next channel towards goal 2, a new 1 v 2 go to to goal, the original 1v2 join from their channel, to make a 2 v 4. Play out until dead ball.

Whilst this is happening A new 1 v 2 starts towards goal 1, starting the process again.

One team defends for 5 mins, break then swap.

Seond time through start opposite way

GK focus is to organise early to focus on where shots are coming from.

Should allow for lots of opportunities to counter attack from different areas (We have won the ball in midfield for example...) Complete 2 x sets with attacking focus and then ask which areas we are not defending well. Then introduce concept of conter cover (help side tucking in on the big field and counter cover running to defend the hotline)

Continuous Attack

Part 2 - Counter Attack To Goal - 2 x 8 mins at each station

Part 2A - Chris to lead on counter attack & counter defence (protecting the middle if can't win ball..)

Critical moment marking and goal scoring

Players play 2 v 2 or 3 v 3 to a goal.

Players have to lead in the D to try and get the ball to score, defence trying to regain possession and then pass out to their team. If they do they can then try to score and other team become defenders.

Progression, 3 way link up, players can post outside the circle and try to one time in to another forward (Condition is must make a pass before scoring).

2B - Alan Wall to lead on 'Using Ahead-Drop-Square Principles to Change Point of Attack in open play'

4 x 6 mins

3 v 3 Continuous att v defence

A attack goal 2 then defend C in goal 1, then get out (B are in to just start off game).

C then jump across to defend D new attackers

Can tweak numbers, can tweak start locations, pitch sizes, add points for using 3 key focusses from earlier, or add them as multiplyers.

Scores = Circle Entry = 2 points. Forcing Attacking team to pass backwards = 3 points. Goal = 1point

Solution Sunday

11 v 11 Solution Sunday - 4 x 10 minute games (Teams will attack then defend in each scenario in A-B-B-A format so both teams get the chance to learn from another in each scenario...)

1) It's the final group game of the U18 Euros in 2020. Germany botched their opening game and surprisingly are now battling to go through. We play Germany, knowing that a draw or a win will take us through to the semi-finals to play England. If we lose, we play Holland... It's the final 10 minutes and we are drawing 1-1 but they have a penalty corner to start the game. Can we do it?!

2) It's the final match of the U18 Euros in 2020. We are playing Spain. Due to the first crossover game in the relegation pool, we need to win by 2 clear goals to stay up. Having analysed Spain, we know they have conceded all of their goals in the first 10 minutes of each game, but no team has scored against them after that. Can we get ahead in the first 10 to give us that 2 goal lead?
