2v1(1) - Half Court (10 mins)

i. Session Organisation

  • 2v1 (1) Half court attacking exercise

ii. Age groups/Level of Ability

  • u9+

iii. Size of Area required

  • Half Court

iv. Number of Players - Min: Max:

  • 5+

v. Duration

  • 10-15 minutes

vi. Equipment required

  • Markers
  • Balls

vii. Structure of the Session

  • The attackers are positioned at the markers on the halfway line and passing the ball back and forward with 1 touch
  • The defenders are placed in line with the markers at 1 & 2
  • Once the coach shouts GO the defender at 1 sprints out and high 5's the coach
  • The attackers play 2v1 and try to score before a 2v2 is created
  • The attackers try to stay within the shaded area
  • If the defender wins the ball they have to try and feed the ball back to the coach
  • Play continues until the ball goes out of play

viii. Attacking points

  • Good passing
  • Speed of play
  • Try to move the defender from the middle of the court
  • Try to finish the attack before the 2nd defender returns
  • Decision making, when to pass, dribble and shoot
  • Transition to defence if you lose the ball

ix. Defending points

  • The recovery defender sprints as fast as they can to try and create a 2v2
  • The other defender tries to DELAY the attackers and to force them back or wide
  • Communication from all players including the GK
  • Try and stop any goals being scored
  • Transition to attack if you win the ball

x. Coaching points

  • The importance of good passes at the start (2 touch if less developed)
  • Speed of the attack
  • Decision making from both attackers
  • Finish the attack
  • Cover defensive points as well depending on the theme

xi. Progressions

  • 3v1 (2) larger area
  • 3v2 (1) larger area
  • 4v2 (2) full court
  • 4v3 (1) full court

3v2 (10 mins)

i. Session Organisation

  • 3v2 (1) 2/3  or full court attacking exercise

ii. Age groups/Level of Ability

  • u9+

iii. Size of Area required

  • Full Court or 2/3rd's

iv. Number of Players - Min: Max:

  • 7+

v. Duration

  • 10-15 minutes

vi. Equipment required

  • Markers
  • Balls

vii. Structure of the Session

  • The attackers are positioned at the markers on the halfway line and passing the ball back and forward with 1 touch
  • You follow your pass and move to the other side
  • The defenders are placed in line with the markers at 1 & 2
  • Once the coach shouts GO the defender at 1 sprints out and high 5's the coach
  • The attackers play 3v2 and try to score before a 2v3 is created
  • If the defenders win the ball they attack the opposite goal
  • Play continues until the ball goes out of play
  • ATACK/DEFEND/RECOVER if more than 3 groups

viii. Attacking points

  • Good passing
  • Speed of play
  • Try to move the defenders from the middle of the court (isolate a defender)
  • Try to finish the attack before the 3rd defender returns
  • Try to create a 2v1 or a clear shot on goal
  • Decision making, when to pass, dribble and shoot
  • Transition to defence if you lose the ball

ix. Defending points

  • The recovery defender sprints as fast as they can to try and create a 3v3
  • The other defenders try to DELAY the attackers and to force them back or wide
  • Defenders to work together and cover each other
  • Communication from all players including the GK
  • Try and stop any goals being scored
  • Transition to attack if you win the ball

x. Coaching points

  • The importance of good passes at the start (2 touch if less developed)
  • Speed of the attack
  • Decision making from both attackers
  • Finish the attack
  • Cover defensive points as well depending on the theme
  • Can also be played 3v1 if you have limited success or a less developed group

xi. Progressions

  • Play kick-ins if you want
  • 4v2 (2) full court
  • 4v3 (1) full court
