Instructions:
Attacker dribbles in zig zags for 20 yds, defender jockeys along, no pressure or attempting to steal ball. Alternate attacker/defender.
Coaching Points:
-Side-on stance, like you're surfing.
-Stay 1-2 steps from attacker.
-Keep feet moving.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
20x30 box, mark center line with cones. Mini-goal on one side in the corner, two groups on opposite sides, balls on side with the goal.
Instructions:
1v1 with a shot on goal. Defender starts by passing to attacker then closes space to defend. Attacker must advance ball into offensive half before attempting a shot. Goal = 1 pt. If defender wins possession he can dribble to opposite end-line for 1 pt. Alternate attackers/defenders.
Coaching Points:
-Close space fast at first, then slow.
-Force attacker away from goal or to weaker foot.
-Keep your eyes on the ball, not the man.
-Challenge with confidence!
Progressions:
Vary goal position from left to right.

Organization:
Set up as shown. 3 teams of 4. Lots of balls
Instructions:
Blue and Yellow team play together against Red team. All teams must stay in their area. The Blue team must pass the ball around to try and create a gap / space to get the ball through to the Yellow team. The Red team must cover and slide across to close all gaps and stop any through balls.
Option 1: Play for two minutes, count how many successful passes are made from end to end. Defending team is trying to get as *low* a score as possible. Switch defending teams every two minutes.
Option 2: If the defending team get possession of the ball they pass it to the team who did not give it away and change places with thet team that lost the ball.
Coaching Points:
1. Closest defender should close space ASAP and provide pressure
2. Angle of support to provide cover (making sure you are able to stop the penetrative pass/shot)
3. Stay compact, don't get split.
Progressions:
1. After 2 passes without passing across, Red can send one defender in to provide pressure.
2. Bonus point if you split two defenders. (So one point if you pass along the sides, two if you split the middle. This will remind defenders to stay compact and not get split.)
3. The pass across must be a one-touch pass.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
4v4 or equal number of players. 3 goals each side, as shown.
Instructions:
Each team will be able to score on 3 goals, the middle one is worth 3 points, the outside two are worth 1 point. The defending team needs to have good shape in terms of pressure/cover, especially to steer the attacking team away from the more valuable center goal.
Coaching Points:
-defensive shape (triangle shape)
-proper stance to press (side-on)
-communication
-movement of the unit
-angle of support and approach
Progressions:
-have limited touches on the ball
-10 passes can equal a point
-remove wide goals to finish session with free play
