Technical Practice

Organization:

Set up playing area as shown.

Instructions:

- At the start of the practice, the players are divided into two teams (blues and reds as shown).

- The blues are then further divided into two groups of three.

- In their groups of three, the blues are looking to keep possession and they are also looking to pass the ball across the flag goals i.e. vertically or horizontally (as shown) in any direction with one player receiving the pass on the opposite side. Once the passed is being received, they will look to quickly look to move the ball towards the other flag goals to repeat the action.

- The reds (individually) are looking to dribble across the flag goals i.e. vertically or horizontally as shown in any direction, however once a player dribble through a flag goal, they have to immediately look to dribble through the other flag goal.

- No one is allowed inside the flag goal except when dribbling through.

- On the coach's call, the both teams switches role.

Coaching Points:

1. Quality of pass (weight, accuracy, disguise, firm, timing, spin etc).

2. Movements i.e. movement to receive, movement to support or movement to create space.

3. Body shape to receive i.e. side-on / half turn.

4. Awareness & Scanning!!!

5. Communication.

6. Dribble around with pace performing different moves, feints, tricks etc.

Progressions:

1. The blue team in their small groups will look to compete against each other by playing to score points, all the three players must be involved in connecting the passes for a point to count.

2. The reds will be matched up in twos to compete individually against each other to dribble through the flag goals and see who get the most points.

On coach's call, both teams switches roles.

Skill Practice

Organization:

Same set up as shown.

Instructions:

- The skill practice is a progression of the technical practice.

- Both teams (blues and reds) now look to compete against each other playing one ball.

- The method of scoring remain the same once a team is in possession.

- Once a goal is scored on one of the flag goals, the team that scored should look to score the next goal in the other flag goals.

- If the ball is intercepted while they were looking to score in the other flag goals and they immediately win back possession, they will again have the option of scoring in either flag goals.

- If a team scores back-to-back on the same flag goals without the ball being intercepted, that second point that was scored wouldn't count but they will be allowed to keep possession of the ball.

- No one is allowed inside the flag goal except when dribbling through.

Questions:

1. When should we look to dribble or run with the ball?

2. When should we look to maintain possession vs penetration vs scoring goals?

3. When should we look to pass vs dribble?

4. What if the flag goals are blocked, what should we look to do?

5. Upon loss of possession what are our key priorities i.e. press, counter press, block goals?
