Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Passing through the thirds!

Passing through the thirds! (30 mins)

Players: 12 players, however, this can be changed slightly depending on the number of players available in the session.

Equipment: bibs, balls, markers, cones.

Session: positional game where players are marked to one of the three thirds of the pitch. There is a 2 v 2 in the middle third with 3 defenders and 1 attacker in the other other thirds either end. The idea of this session is to pass and move in order to get the ball into the lone attacker for him/her to score. After each goal, recycle from the defender inside their own third.

Conditions:

- If a defender or a midfielder passes forward through one of the thirds, that player can move into that third to support their teammates.

- Attacker can pass back into the middle third to set a midfielder for a first time shot.

- Player ownership? Can they create their own conditions?

Challenges:

- Can you recycle the ball and play back to defenders? Don't always have to go forwards!

- Can you move into space away from the defender to create an option for your teammate?

- Red team are 1-0 up, discuss tactics on how they react for the last 10 minutes. Do the Blue team continue to pass and move or do they introduce long balls towards the attacker to try and find that goal.
