Width Related Activity:
Set Up: Wide channel created each side of pitch
Concentrate on attacking team (blues)
Encourage constant waves of attacks
Instructions:
Reds (defenders) start in central area however when ball played into wide channel then as many as needed can enter the channel. Note: Soon as ball leaves wide area then defenders leave as well.
Objective is for wide players to maintain their width unless there is a reson to move into the middle.
If defenders get lazy and lose sight of the wide players they can quickly get to goal.
Coaching Points:
Break fast and provide width
Encourage different options of width - from overlap or keeping wide
Good/early decision making
Game realistic pace
Communication at all times

Bedding Down
Width: Formation 2-1-3
Bedding Down: (working front three)
Set Up: 5v3, 5v4, 6v5 etc
Instructions: Ball played to attacking 3 (blue team) to start
Attackers start together and move wide to create width or overlap.
Note: If ball played to wide player of the three then encourage receiving player to drive inside.
Attackers without ball should get high and wide. Go long and come short again to create space and at an angle to get onto the ball.
Note: Don't go past last defender.
Player in possession should attack with the ball and drive towards the defenders, creating a 2v1
Try to attack but if it's not on, come back inside and try the other side.
Use middle attacker as the point to switch attack.
The opposite wide attacker should stay wide, keeping the covering defender away but also as an option if the ball needs to change sides.
