Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
The session progresses on from the unopposed individualized practice of the same topic. Within the individualized part the DCM has worked on 3 different patterns to play, CB, CM and other CM. This practice is designed to have the same outcomes as the initial part save that the practice is now a small sided game and therefore opposed.
Increase more players to paint more pictures and increase the level of difficulty for success. Start with 6v6 and can build to 9v9 and 11v11. This practice is designed to play in a 6v6 format.
Working in blocks of 4x4 minute blocks:
1. Free play
2. Locked into 1/3s
3. Players can step from underneath the ball to support higher line.
4. #9 can drop in to create overload in CM.
(Initially lock players into 3rds but progress to allow CB to step in and highest line to drop in to create overloads).
If too difficult, a common player could play in MF unit to create overload in possession prior to allowing other players to step in either side.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Can play be made through DCM in order to progress forward.
Can players recreate the various pictures by playing through the DCM, and if players can gain such success are they able to use rotations to have other players occupying the DCM role to play in same patterns.
Movements for players around DCM to create space in order for them to play.
Speed of play - fast.
If not on forward encourage players to retain possession, recycle the ball with speed in order to play through opposition gaps between lines / switch play and point of attack.
NB: Pitch dimensions are pictured as above to allow for space to show how play is built up, however pitch dimensions will be 2x18-yard boxes and width will be within the 6 and 18 yard box. Size will depend on load level in line with periodised plan and success of players.
