Organization:
Set up as shown. 3 teams of 4. Lots of balls
Instructions:
Red and Yellow team play together against blue team. Blue team cannot leave their area shown. The Red team must pass the ball around to try and create a gap / space to get the ball through to the Yellow team. The Blue team must cover and slide across to close all gaps and stop any through balls.
If the defending team get possession of the ball they pass it to the team who did not give it away and change places with thet team that gave them the ball.
Coaching Points:
(1). Angle of support (making sure you are able to stop the penetrative pass/shot)
(2). Distance of support (making sure that you are able to tackle the attacker immediately if the 1st defender is beaten)
Progressions:
(1). Defenders stay in Red shaded zone and move according to location of ball. Allow defender to enter into attacking area on 5+ passes.

Organization: Fast paced 1v1 into 2v1, into 3v2
Blue attacks yellow at speed. Play is 1 v. 1. Player who shoots becomes defender. Example: Blue shoots and next yellow attacks at speed. Goalkeeper replaced by player who didn't shoot.
Coaching points:
(1). Speed of play.
(2). Mental awareness, moment of loss of possession.
(3). Figure out when to pressure when to delay.
(4). Communicate, get compact when recovering, display pressure, cover.
Progressions:
Yellow passes to blue and become pressure, cover defenders. Play until blue scores or yellow regains possession and dribble/pass through gates in corner.

Organization: 4 v. 4 + 3. If extra player make 5 v. 5 +2.
Instructions: Game to 4 goals. Reds attack south, blues attack north. Yellows are neutral and play with whichever team has the ball. Score point by connecting 8 passes or scoring in goal. Game to 5 points.
Coaching Points:
(1). Immediate pressure at moment of lost possession.
(2). Covering player angle and distance
(3). Communication "I got ball" and covering player "I'm cover".
(4). Speed of transition between pressure and cover players.
Progressions:
(1). Can score by 8 passes or goal in either of 2 goals. Neutral cannot score. Switch neutral players every 5 minutes.
(2). Can score points only in goals. Game to 5 points. Attacking team scores and keeps ball on restart to attack other way (creates moments of transition).

Organization: 4v4. First team to score stays on and losing team goes off.
Coaching Points:
(1). Recognition of defender and space
(2). Weight of pass to back foot.
(3). Space in behind defender to receive?
(4). Speed of defender? Fast- beat them with first touch. Slow- small touches to bait them in.
(4). Disguise of pass.
(5). End result? Can you score? Do you need to dribble by the defender to score?

Arrival- Rondos (5 mins)
Organization: Players make circle to play Rondo. Extra balls on outside of circle.
Instructions: Player nearest the ball is the 1st defender The 2nd defender reads the pressuring first defender's speed and angle to predict/anticipate the movement of the ball and tries to jump the pass. Make sure players understand that they can be either 1st or 2nd defender at any time. Player who makes mistake passing changes with defender in the longest.
Coaching Points: (1). 1st defender communication.
(2). Communication with the 1st defender (Push left! Push Right!).
(3). Read the play and anticipate the pass.
(4). Prevent the penetrating split pass. Support the 1st defender. Angle of support (45 degrees).
(5). Distance of support. Stay connected to the 1st defender and squeeze space as the pressure intensifies.
(6). If you can jump/intercept the pass as the 2nd defender - attack the ball before it arrives OR immediately after the 1st touch of the receiving player as it is moving away from him.
