Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): ATT - Build-Up in 3-5-2 #1

TECHNICAL WARM-UP (20 mins)

Organization:

• Set up cones as shown in the diagram below - Build Up Structure
• Same set up for all passing patterns.
• Players start on lettered cones and/in front of mini goal.
  • Ideally 2 players on each lettered cone, 1 in front of mini goal, 1 to START, 1 as GK.

Instructions:

• Balls can start on A cones -or- with pass to GK in front of goal making first pass to A cone (depending on numbers and GK available)
• BUILD UP #1
  • A > B > D > Goal
  • B (WB) checks into half space, as CM pulls out wide to occupy wing.
  • Rotation: A - B - D - Goal - Dribble to start
  • Switch player checking in after 3-4 minutes. (D instead of B)
  
  
• BUILD-UP #2
  • A > B > C > D > Goal
  • B (WB) checks into half space, as D (CM) pulls out wide to occupy wing.
  • D (WB) is unable to turn because of having tight pressure, so he lays off to C (CDM) providing support as a 3rd man and this one finally breaks pressure and connects with D (CM) advanced up.
  • Rotation: A - C - B - D - E - Goal - Dribble to start
  • Switch player checking in after 3-4 minutes.

• PROGRESSION
  • Complete for 4-8 minutes.
    
    • 1- COMMAND - After completing both Build-Up Patterns players are encouraged to communicate with WB checking into half space whether he should turn TURN or lay off MAN ON
    • 2- OPTIONAL DEFENDER - Have a second player start behind D or E, this one has the option of stepping to WB checking into half space and apply pressure. WB is to make decision whether to turn out of pressure or lay off based on his awareness of this defensive player
    • 3- OPPOSED - 2v1/3v2 starts as A passes the ball into D or B. Defenders start behind one or both D and B. Player on C joins if 3v2.

Coaching Points:

• Technical focus
  • Speed/Quality of passing
  • First touch
    • Out of Pressure - Progressive or to Turn
    • One touch lay off
  • Movement to check into pocket of space.
  • Body position
    • Awareness of pressure/defender - scan shoulders
    • Turn with ease - open body
    • Lay off - wide/strong base

OLI (40 mins)

Organization:

• Half Field / Two thirds (DEF & MID)
• Full size goal on end line / 2 Mini goals on half line or 15 yards passed if using 2 thirds - Place goals aligned with box width.
• 8v6 or 8v8 + GK.

Instructions:

• Play starts from GK - Goal Kick or Pass back to him.
• ATTACK (BLUE)
  • 3-5 / 2-2-4 Build-up Structure.
  • Build-Up play to progress and score on mini goals. (from denoted area of the field to encourage passing range)
  • Encourage rotations and movements addressed in previous phases.
  • If playing on 2 thirds, team can only enter in mid 3rd with pass or First Touch.
• DEFENCE
  • 3-3 / 3-2-3 High Press Structure
  • Vary from 1) Man on Man Pressing, ST does the job of CBs -or- 2) Forcing ATT team to one side of the field.
  • High intensity to press must be demanded.
  • If playing with 8, FBs make decision whether or not to commit to WB.
• RULES/SCORE
  • No throw ins, until the end - Offsides and goal kicks enforced.
  • ATT - 1 pt for entering mid 3rd / 3 pts for a goal
  • DEF - 1 pt for winning possession / 2 pts for winning possession in ATT 3rd / 3pts for a goal
