Technical Practice

Technical Practice:

  • Set 3/4 lanes (depending on the number of players)
  • Box Size: 8x15
  • 1 Player will be placed in the middle of a 3, with two players on either end of the channel.
  • Both players on either end of the channel will have a ball to feet.
  • The player in the middle will ask to receive the ball from their team-mate, they will control the ball and pass the ball back. They will repeat this with the player on the other side.
  • Play for 1-2 minutes per player.

Key Factors:

  • Repetition is Key.
  • Remind them of the mechanics - inside of the foot, aim at target, firm ankle, follow through
  • Players are encouraged to take a light controlled touch before passing the ball. Encourage players to control the ball on their back foot and touch the ball forward before playing a forward pass.
  • Players are to keep their head up and show readiness for each pass. Players should understand the correct body shape when receiving the ball.
  • Its important that players use their team-mates name to ask for the ball.

Skill Practice:

  • Remove one ball and introduce a turn in the middle
  • 1-2 minutes in the middle each
  • Take ball on the back foot and turn
  • Challenge/Progress - How many passes before the ball leaves your square? How many passes in a minute?
