Description

What: Individual skills with ball 1v1s Dribbling and Turning with the ball - to successfully change direction with the ball turning to unbalance defender in a 1v1 situation .

Who: 1st Attacker -Player with the ball trying to dribble and turn pass the defender , 1st defender- Player applying pressure and trying to steal the ball

Where: Attacking third 1v1 against defender towards open space and goal 

When: When a player recognizes the space in front to take on  the defender 1v1 and  instead of kicking the ball anywhere; they can dribble with  the ball  close to change direction of attack and turn with the ball to unbalance defender and shoot the ball towards goal

Why: To further give them another tool to help them get passed a defender in 1v1 situation and attempt to score

Intro (10 mins)

Organization: Intro -  Marble Kings and Queens (10mins)

  • 30x40 Grid
  • 1 Marble (ball) per player 
  • Only the Marble King/Queen is allowed to start with the ball in their hands 
  • Everyone else must dribble away from the Marble King/Queen using their feet 

Instructions:

  • Marble Kings/Queens (defenders) start with their marble (ball) in their hands
  • Marble Kings/Queens then have to run around and hit another players marble with theirs.
  • When a ball is hit, that player becomes a tagger (defender) joins the Marble Kings/Queens as well
  • The game lasts until theres one person left dribbling

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Protect your marble by getting your body between it and the Marble King
  • Keep looking around for the Marble Kings/Queens so you can run the other way
  • Dribble at speed, keeping the ball close
  • Head up and observe situation
  • Avoid collisions by looking around and observing positions of other players
  • When resuming with a positive touch, use laces to push ball away with toe down

Regressions/Progressions:

  • R- Start with more Marble Kings/Queens 
  • P- Marble Kings/Queens uses feet instead of hands

  • P- Players are frozen when their ball is hit, they must stand with the ball above their head and their legs spread apart. Non-frozen players must pass the ball through a frozen player's legs and receive it on the other side without getting hit to unfreeze their teammate. When all the players have been frozen or an alotted amount of time as passed, players switch being it.

Main Activity (15 mins)

Organization: Main Activity - Color and Numbers Race - (15mins)

  • 30x40 area with cones on the border as shown.

Instructions:

  • Players are all dribbling throughout the space.
  • At coach command players must dribble to the side of the field indicated by the color or number of cones. Ex: Red Cones, Dribble to the Side with 5 Cones...etc
  • Player perform turns and change directions to get to the side that coach instructed 

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Can we perform a turn (drag back, Pull back, L turn, V turn) to change direction with the ball
  • Dribble at speed, keeping the ball close
  • Head up and to be ready to turn with the ball
  • Avoid collisions by looking around and observing positions of other players
  • Outside (pinky-toe) for close control.
  • Laces for fast, longer distance dribbling.

Regressions/Progressions:

  • R- Have players run with the ball in there hands 
  • P- Use only one foot to dribble 
  • P- Make it competitive. First one to the side gets a point. First to five points wins

  • P- First 4 Players to the side gets points 

  • P- Give multiple commands

Conditioned Game (10 mins)

Organization:  Conditioned Game - 1v1s, 2v2s (10mins)

  • 30x40 Grid
  • 2 Teams per field 
  • 2-3 players per team 
  • 3 goals per field 
  • Attackers vs Defenders

Instructions:

  • 1v1s Attacker starts dribbling the ball 
  • Defender runs in when Attacker takes first touch
  • Attacker tries to dribble with the ball and turn in a different direction to pass defender
  •  Attacker has two goals to try to score in 
  • Defender tries to steal the ball from Attacker and score in the Attacker's goal
  • 20-30 seconds intervals
  • Rotate Attackers with Defenders

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Can we perform a turn (drag back, Pull back, L turn, V turn) to change direction with the ball
  • Dribble at speed, keeping the ball close
  • Head up and to be ready to turn with the ball
  • Avoid collisions by looking around and observing positions of other players
  • Outside (pinky-toe) for close control.
  • Laces for fast, longer distance dribbling.

Regressions/Progressions:

  • R- Use End zones (cones) to replace goals if players are struggling to score
  • P- Defender passes in the ball to Attacker 
  • P- 2v2s
