Learning Objectives

Running With The Ball at pace

Technical (15 mins)

Set Up

Area size - 40yds x 30yds with a 5yd zone running the length of the pitch on either side.

Practice set out for 12 players all bibbed on arrival ( this and area can change depending on numbers and ability).

Cones required and spare balls placed in an accessible area.

Skill Session - Area split into four 10yd x 30yd dribbling channels, players dribble from one end of the channel to the other at pace, pushing the ball in front of them with the laces of their left and right foot.

Progression 1 - Introduction of 2 gates

Progression 2 - 3 gates

Running With The Ball

1. Get ball out of feet.

2. Make contact with the laces

3. Head up

4. Get into running stride

5. Move quickly

Skill (20 mins)

Set Up

Pitch set up with one large goal at one end and 2 smaller goals in each corner.

5 yd dribbling zones set up on both touch lines.

3v2 plus GK - One of the 3 attackers is to be nominated as striker.

The aim is for the attacking team to work the ball into the dribbling zone where they can get into the opposite half to cross the ball in for the striker, at this stage the defenders must remain in the opposite half to the GK, the drill starts when the ball is passed to one of the attackers from the defender, a defender from either side then follow the ball in.

Challenges: 3 seconds in possession, first time finish, non-dominant foot crossing, outside of foot cross

Skill with Progression

Progression 1 - If defenders win the ball the can score points by finishing in one of the small goals (if goals not available then scoring boxes can be used where they can either dribble into or pass the ball into)

Progression 2 - Attacker dribbles into box before crossing, ball must be crossed as soon as he enters it.

Progression 3 - Scoring zone - Attacker must look to supplie the ball into this area for the striker to finish.

Progression 4 - One defender can follow striker to provide competition on cross.

SSG (25 mins)

SSG

6 vs 6 - Goals to be scored from balls provided from the RWB zones, defenders are not to enter the RWB zone under initial conditions. Players encouraged to cross the ball whilst running.

Conditions - 1 point for a successful cross (ball played in to team mate), 2 points for a shot from a cross, 3 points for a goal scored from a cross.

Progression - Max time in RWB zone 5 secs - 3 secs.

Regression - Safe Zone with in RWB Zone where players can stop the ball and cross.
