Exercise 1

4 sticks/cones | 2 hurdles/cones | 1 server | 1 goal

GK will do footwork over the 2 hurdles and then adjust across the goal and set for a volley to the hands from S1.

After S1 volleys to the GK, he will adjust his position to between the 1st set of agility sticks.

When the GK has caught the ball cleanly he will distribute the ball to S1 with a side volley.

Exercise 2

4 sticks/cones | 1 server | 1 goal

S1 starts with a ball at his feet.

GK sets in line with S1. S1 will drive a ball looking to hit his chest.

After S1 kicks the ball to the GK he will then move his position from the middle (where he kicked the ball), to between one of the gates (between a set of agility sticks).

When the GK catches the ball he will distribute the ball that he caught with a side volley trying to hit the hands of the server.

When S1 catches the ball from the GK, he will have a half volley shot trying to score on the GK.

When the GK side volleys the ball to S1, he will adjust his position quickly in preparation for the shot from S1.

Coaching points to consider:

GK should focus on one component of the exercise at a time. Dont focus on the next phase of the drill until hes completed the one before.

Because the side volley is being hit from a short distance, GK needs focus more on the contact of the foot hitting the ball more than using power and hitting it as hard as he can.

GK should be striking the ball around his hip level while raising the kicking leg.

GK's awareness prior to the half volley shot from S1. Is he aware of his angle in goal?

Exercise 3

4 sticks/cones | 1 server | 1 goal

GK will work on striking a side volley with S1 a further distance away from goal.

The server can change his position so the GK is not trying to hit the ball in the same location every time.

Coaching points to consider:

The release point and timing of the foot hitting the ball is very important.

When the kicking foot hits the ball it should be struck at around the hip level.

In order for the ball to be hit correctly the ball has to be struck at a high trajectory.
