Set Up:
Set up similar to exercise 1. Server 1 and 2 start with a ball. Server 3 starts without. Server 1 kicks or throws (age/quality dependent) the ball into the GK who makes a clean catch, and throws the ball to the open server. S2 then plays the ball into GK who makes save and throws ball to new open server. S3 then serves the ball and so on. Goalkeeper should do 3 repititions before switching out to make 9 catches.
Coaching Points:
Body in set/ready positions
Weight forward
W Catch - Cushion ball into hands
Elbows tucked in close to body, hands in front of the body
Hands move together to the ball and make save in front of body
Body behind the ball
Reset body position after each save
Strong underarm through to return ball to server
Server points - Timing/quality of the serve is important. Exercise should be quick and sharp. Older or higher level players can volley/half volley the ball into the goalkeper for more of a challenge.
