Moving the Ball Forward (25 mins)

Organisation

Place a line of cones/safety markers down the middle of the pitch between the two 23m lines. Put piles of balls at each end of the mid-line (in neat piles!!!)

Split the group into two teams. Each team has two pods (3 x defenders and 5 x attackers) positioned on opposite sides of the mid-line (subject to player numbers!)

Play up both sides of the pitch concurrently.

Each attacking group start with a ball from the pile, and must make a pass to initiate the attack (not a carry). The five attackers play v the three defenders from the other team and try to score a goal (2 points) or win a PCA (1 point).

If the defenders win the ball they need to carry over the 1/2 way line to kill the phase and deduct a point from the atacking side. Play sideline hits and corners.

If a team scores a goal or the defenders kill the phase, an attacker must jump back to get a ball and restart a new phase with a pass to a teammate.

The game stops after 8 minutes, 1 coach per pitch, coaches keep score and then add scores together from both pitches. after 8 minutes come together to discuss how teams win the game. Discussions to cente on :-

"How to get the ball forward, what players not on the ball do to make it easier to attack, what do we do to get the ball forward, how do we create sapce"

Parents to score with clickers - " how many team mates ran into space"
