Warm Up (5 mins)

Warm Up

- Including stretches within the warm up activity

- Players to pass to the opposite end of the field through the cones to a team mate

- Dynamic warm up to the end of the cones, playing a 1,2 with team mate to lay off and play wide

- 3rd player recieves the ball and dribbles back

- No more than 6 to a station

- Quickly around the station to incorporate match-like urgency

Progressions

- Progress by limiting touches, speed of play, use of weak foot, drilled and chipped pass

Lateral movement (10 mins)

Organisation

- Players work in groups of 3 around 2 mannequins.

- Set up as many as required. One working, two serving.

- One minute for each set of exercises.

How to Play

- Player at the mannequin starts centrally each time:

1. Shuffle laterally to return passes, left foot, left side, right foot,

right side.

2. Server throws the ball underarm for inside foot volleys, left and

right

3. Same service to thigh control and volley back with opposite foot.

4. Throw service for chest control, volley back with laces.

5. Headers, left foot forward one side, right foot forward opposite

side.

Switch to one ball per group

1. Receive behind mannequin, first touch in front & diagonal pass

to opposite server - back off behind mannequin and move laterally

to repeat.

2. Underarm serve for diagonal volleys.

3. Underarm serve to bounce next to mannequin for diagonal half-volleys.

4. Underarm serve for chest control to diagonal side volleys.

5. Underarm serve for diagonal headers.

Rondo (15 mins)

Rondo

- Begin by usual rondo, 2 players in the middle

- If player loses possession, person to their left OR right go in the middle, change & allow players to choose

- Add punishments in the Rondo, if players concede 10 passes they have to complete a forfeit

Progressions

- 2 touch required

- Can't return the pass for a 1,2

- Play a pass and move to the next rondo, players must act with urgency otherwise they will let their teams down

- Add another defender after 5 passes

Recieve under pressure (15 mins)

Recieving under pressure in a circle

- Begin with 3v3 inside the circle which is created by the outer players stances

- Play the ball to a team mate without being tackled or return to the outside for safety

- Use your body to shield the ball and protect it in the 'middle of the park' whilst being able to release quickly and distribute

- Recieve and play out of danger/ recycle the ball/ maintain possession

Progressions

- Decrease the size of the circle

- Midfielders underloaded

Multi directional (20 mins)

Organisation

- Goals positioned as shown.

- 2 equal teams.

How to Play

- 2 teams compete to score in any of the 3 goals.

- Time periods to suit your needs.

- No stopping the game to coach (use water breaks).

- If a goal is scored but the ball stays in play, the game continues.

- If GK makes a save, serve to an empty space.

Possession (20 mins)

3 areas to maintain possession

- Three colours of players (orange/ white/ green)

- 2 colours have possession at one time with the aim of playing the ball through the thirds

- If a team can play from one end to the other without losing possession, the team defending gain a POINT

- If the ball is played from one end to the other, and returned without losing possession, the defending team gain 3 POINTS

- Team with the most points at the end of the exercise have to complete a punishment

Progressions

- 2x teams rather than 3

- One player from a box can enter for both teams to try and overload/ press in numbers at the correct time

- Stop and coach the correct time to overload and to press

Overloading (20 mins)

Overload in Possession

- Team in possession aim to keep the ball for as long as possible

- Point scoring system for the team in possession is follows:

1 point - Everybody touches the ball

1 point - 10 passes

1 point - The ball is played in each box twice without losing possession

- The team defending can only score by winning possession and scoring in one of the 4 samba goals

- Oranges and white can move freely around the area however remind the oranges that they want to pass in to all 4 corners, this will naturally allow the players to move freely into space, opening up the pitch and space to maintain possession from defenders

- The more space, the less chance there is for defenders to win the ball

- Defenders may press in pairs to close the space down

- If the ball goes out of play, restart with orange team.
