Organization: Players line up (in formation) and practice defensive footwork, body stance, and positioning. Have GKs call out instructions to practice communication, can be in front of and/or behind team. Have reserves mimic their positional starter.
Instructions: GKs dictate the way the players move by shouting out commands. "Delay!" all players must retreat backwards. "Pressure!" all players must move forward. "Right!" all players move right. "Left!" all players move left "Recover!" all players must make recovery runs and organize on the 18 yard line.
Coaching Points: Bend knees, keep body low, side on, weight over front fot/slightly forward. Keep legs "spring-loaded" to change direction quickly. Leg posisition one leg behind the other. Pivot with the back foot when changing from side to side.
Progression: Play balls in certain areas of the field and have team organize defensively.

Organization: 10x20 grid. 2 players play 1v1.
Instructions: Part 1: 2 players start the activity from each end line and the offensive player dribbles forward and side to side, while the defensive player tries to stay 1-2 yds in front of him. There is no tackling at this point. Players switch roles. Part 2: Play 1v1 to end lines where offensive player must stop ball on endline for a goal, then recover to play proper defensive position. Keep Score and swich opponents.
Coaching Points: Part 1: footwork of defender, body stance, showing one way, side on, pivoting from the back foot to eliminate a step. "Low, Slow, Side On, 100%" Part 2: Are the players recovering quickly to a defensive position to delay to begin pressing? Tackling techniques.

Organization: Split team into offense vs defense on half pitch.
Instructions: Activity 1: Position four defenders across the width of the field at the edge of the 18. The practice starts with one of the central attackers passing the ball to a teammate, and the 4 try for an attempt on goal. Defense scores by passing to any attacker in the next group. Play starts again immediately. Activity 2: After passing the ball the ball to one of the backs, attackers pressure and attempt to with the ball and go to goal. The object is for the defenders to keep quality possession of the ball when under pressure and try to pass the ball to one of the four players on the half way line to score.
Coaching Points: In possession: Firm, accurate passes to the correct foot. Drive the ball with pace over long distances. Move quickly after a pass. Use 1st touch to set up next pass. Use GK when under pressure. Use width to spread defense. Make them cover as much ground as possible to pressure the ball. Switch field as quickly as possible. When defending: Quick to pressure and cover, organize balance to prevent playing in behind. Recovery runs when beat or ball gets behind you. Speed, angle of approach. Force team into possession into your help. Use touchline as an additional defender. Cover or recovery run should doubleteam ball when appropriate. Communication from covering players and GK.

Instructions: Dynamic Warm Up (All x2) 1. Jog 2. Open the Gate 3. Close the Gate 4. Circling Partner 5. Jumping with Shoulder Contact 6. Up 2, Back 1 Sprints 7. Sprints 8. Planks & Alternate Leg Planks (30 sec) Allow players 2 minutes to recover and Static Strech what is needed. Speed Ladders (All x2) 1. 1 foot in 2. 2 feet in 3. Slalom Forward 2 feet in, 2 feet out 4. Slalom Backward 2 feet in, 2 feet out 5. Sideways Left 2 feet in 6. Sideways Right 2 feet in 7. Feet together 2 hops forward, 1 hop back 8. Right Foot 2 hops forward, 1 hop back 9. Lef Foot 2 hops forward, 1 hop back. After finishing a ladder player sprints to cone, then jogs back.
Coaching Points: 1. Jog (keep body straight, Knees straight) 2. Open the Gate (Horizontal Pelvis, Core Still, Hip Knee & Foot of support leg aligned) 3. Close the Gate (Horizontal Pelvis, Core Still, Hip Knee & Foot of support leg aligned) 4. Circling Partner (Face forward & Look Forwad, Knees slightly bent, on balls of feet) 5. Jumping with Shoulder Contact (Land on both feet with hips & knees bent) 6. Up 2, Back 1 Sprints (Keep body in line, on balls of feet) 7. Sprints (Go full Speed, On Balls of Feet) 8. Planks (Body in straight line, elboys under shoulders, tighten abs & glutes) Speed Ladders On balls of feet, try to be faster, finish out the full sprint.
