1 v 1: Bumble Bee Rumble (15 mins)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Each team nominates a defender and attacker in the centre - all other players outside. 
  • There are 2 - 1v1's in the middle going simultaneously. Each team is playing only to the bouncers with their colour bib. 
  • The objective for each team is to move the ball from end to end through the middle attacker
  • Team with the most points after X seconds wins
  • Teams lose a point for every time they lose the ball.

TIMING

  • 60 seconds on, 30 seconds off x 6-8 sets.

PROGRESSION:

  • 2 v 2 in the middle with only 1 ball in play. Players look to connect with each other.
  • Could you introduce/entice the idea of a Give and GO?

COACHING CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Rotate players fast to keep all players active and engaged.
  • Consider the size of the space
  • For larger groups, add another 1v1. 
  • Regression: Add a spare player

Technical Game: Exploding Rondo's (Advanced) (20 mins)

INSTRUCTIONS: 

  • Scoring Method

    • If attacking team make (x) amount of passes, they explode out of the space at pace and must score in the shooting zone. The defender tries to chase and tries to pull the bib from the shirt of the attacker. 
    • If defender wins the ball, they explode out of the space, and 1 attacking player must chase and try to pull the bib.   

COACHING CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Variations: 
    • Instead of tag, players must win the ball back bring it back to box. 
    • Instead of a pass limit, players explode on the coaches call. 
  • If players aren't defending hard enough, create a rule that if the player exploding out of the area scores before the defender reaches half-way, their goal is worth 2 points. 
  • If Defenders are catching up too quickly, maybe could remove the shooting zone? 
  • Odd numbers? - change numbers, change size of rondo.

Tactical Game: Breakout (25 mins)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Rondo in the middle of the field. 
  • A GK for each team in Goal. 
  • 2 ways to breakout out of the area
    • If the possession team makes 5 passes
    • If the team can get the ball from bouncer to bouncer without interuption.
  • Once the team achieves this, the next phase begins.
PHASES

Variation 1: 

  • The attacking team can breakout by playing forward into the front 3rd to a player who has 2 touches to finish. No defender can enter the back third. 

    • Continue to add to the difficulty - 
      • i.e. Add a defender who can track back? 
      • Must be a 1 touch finish, but two players allowed in the top zone. 
Variation 2: 
  • The attacking team can breakout by playing back into their back third to a player who has dropped back or their GK. The game goes live into a 4 v 4 from here. The bouncers are not active here. 
    • Can add to the rules here. 
      • The defending team loses a player for 10 seconds once the ball gets dropped back into the back third.

Variation 3: 
  • Add both rules. Playing forward gives quicker/better rewards, but playing back will give them a different superiority  which is also helpful. Can you coax this conversation out of the players and encourage them to work out which solution is best in each situation

 

TIMING:

  • 3 minutes on, 1 minute off x 6 sets.
