Juggling Arrival Warm-Up (10 mins)

Organization:

- Each player with a ball as they arrive

Arrival Rondo (10 mins)

Organization:

- Arrival activity as players enter the practice

- All players forming a circle with one or two defenders in the middle

Instructions:

- Simple rondo activity

Coaching Points:

-Receiving on back foot/across body

-Strong weight of pass from teammates

-Communication

-Movement off the ball so first attacker now has an options in support on either side

Dribbling Warm-Up (10 mins)

Organization:

-Every Player with ball in 20x30 grid

Instructions:

STEP I:

-Players dribble using Messi touches and Ronaldo touches, choosing the correct time for each, ie close spaces using messi touches, open space using ronaldo touches.

-After a few minutes, a challenge is introduced. Players now race to 50+ touches using Messi, Ronaldo, or a combination of the two.

STEP II.

-Players dribble throughout area using any part of foot and wait for different commands

1) Change - Players leave their ball and find a new one to dribble with

2) Out - Players dribble as quickly as they can to the edge of the field

3) In - Players dribble as quickly as they can around the coach, keeping close control of the ball

Coaching Points:

-Head up to see available space

-Keep the ball close when in crowded areas (can you take a touch every step you take)

-If a player sees a good area of space, then they can take bigger touch/accelerate into it

-Use correct dribbling technique (pinky toe touches, knee over ball)

Progressions:

-If players lose the ball outside of the area, or hit another player/ball they lose 10 points in the race to 50.

Main Theme 1 (10 mins)

Organization:

- Players split into groups of 2 or 3

- Cones 7 yards apart from each other or adjusted as needed

Instructions:

- Starting with the group of two, one player dribbles to the middle cone (defender) and performs a feint to get around the cone and dribble to the other side

- Teammate that the player is dribbling toward goes next and the rotation continues

Coaching Points:

- Execution of the dip and go, accelerating after the move

- Cutting behind the defender after beating them with a move

- Head up when dribbling to find open space and see where defenders are

- Keep the ball close when defenders are near, but take bigger touches and accelerate when in open space or past the defenders

- Use your body to protect the ball when possible

- Correct technique and which touch for which situation?

Main Theme 2 (15 mins)

Organization:

- 10x15yds

- As shown

Instructions:

- Attacking player on line passes to Attacker (Blue)

- Attacker (blue) receives and both players play 1v1.

- Players can score by dribbling through the middle gate.

- Game is live on the pass.

- Players switch lines when done (next group plays).

Coaching Points:

- Quickness to close space

- Bent run to make play predictable

- Appropriate distance from the defender (arms length? Can I get his head down?)

- Technique to jockey

- When to tackle

Conditioned Game (10 mins)

Organization:

- Field size adjusted as needed

- 2v2 or 3v3 depending on numbers

Instructions:

- Players can only dribble forward. They can pass side-ways or backwards but can penetrate on the dribble. On restarts, i.e. goal-kicks, players can then pass forward to start the play.

Coaching Points:

- Reinforcing points worked on earlier

- Working on team shape when we have the ball on a restart, i.e. goal kick. Players wide, one in the middle, creating options and space for the team to find an open pass
