Exercise 1: Passing Drill

Time: 10 Minutes

Organisation:

-4 stations 15 m apart.

-Split players into groups of 5 or 6.

-2 players at 1 and 6, 1 on each at 2 and 3.

-Ball starts at 1.

Exercise:

-Player 1 passes to 2.

-1 moves forward and receives back from 2.

-1 passes to 3 and moves at angle and receives back from 3.

-1 then plays final pass to 4 and moves into that station.

-4 then performs same exercise the opposite way.

-After 2 and 3 play they passes they switch stations with each other.

-Run for two minutes and switch players at stations 2 and 3.

-Do this until every player has been at 2 and 3.

Key Points:

-Angle of forward runs.

-Pace of the pass.

-Quality of the lay off.

Exercise 2: Competitive Drill

Time: 20 Minutes

Organisation:

-Set up two grids with 2 even zones of 15x10 and middle zone of 15x5.

split players into 3 groups, ideally of 4.

-Place a group in each zone of the grid.

Exercise:

-Players in zone 1 start with the ball.

-2 players from zone 2 move into zone 1.

-Players in zone 1 aim to keep the ball and get the ball to players in zone 3.

-If succesful the other players in zone 2 must move into zone 3.

-The first two pressing players move back to zone 2.

-This continues till a team loses possession.

-When this happens team who loses possession becomes defenders.

Key Points:

-Retaining possessiong.

-Waiting for the opportunity to play the pass to zone 3.

-Creating angles to strecth defending team.

Organisation:

-60x40 pitch split into 3 even zones.

-Split players into 3 teams.

-2 teams have players split evenly in each zone.

-Spare team operate as common players outside and inside.

Exercise:

-Ball is served into the central zone.

-Teams that are in position can either pass from each zone or run the ball from each zone.

-Player who does this is allowed to move into that zone also.

-Team in possession can also use the common players insode and outside the playind area.

-Play 5 minute games then switch teams around.

Key Points:

-How players break from one zone to another.

-Identifying the spaces where to break through.

-Awareness of opposition players positions.

-
