6v3 (+1) (15 mins)

Set Up:

Use an area approximately 20*15 with a small goal at each end. Play 6v3 plus 1 neutral player. Neutral player plays with whichever team has the ball.

Team of 6 scores by connecting 8 consecutive passes. Team of 3 scores in either small goal.

Whenever the 3 defenders win the ball and score or the ball goes out of bounds the 3 players that are off and waiting enter the field of play quickly to pressure the 6 attackers and try to win the ball. The 3 defenders leaving the grid must get off before the field before the next 3 defenders are allowed to enter. Whenever the ball goes out the server plays a new ball in to the team of 6.

Coaching Points:

- Quick possession to move the ball quickly in a tight area

- Team of 3 defenders must communicate and work together to win ball

- Attacking team must react quickly as soon as ball is lost to prevent defending team from scoring which is the equivalent of finding an outlet pass.

SSG - 6v6 (+4) Pressing to Block Forward Passes (20 mins)

Set Up:

Use a 40*50 area divided into two halves (40*25 each). The players can move freely across both halves. Each team has 5 outfield players while one team has 4 additional support players in the attacking half (blue team in this diagram).

Ball always starts with the blue team goalkeeper. Their objective is to move the ball into the attacking half to score. The attack must include at least one pass to a support player before a goal can be scored.

The objective for the red team is to put immediate pressure on the ball to try to win it in the attacking half.

Red team plays in a 2-3 formation.

All support players are limited to 1 or 2 touches.

Red team gets 1 point for winnng the ball in the attacking half.

Red team gets 1 point for scoring a goal

White team gets 1 point for successfully playing into a support player

White team gets 1 point for each goal scored

Coaching Points:

- Press high up the field, limiting the time and space for the opponent

- Mark players around the ball zone very tightly and block off potential passing lanes.

- Communicate to make sure the press is organized

- Quickly press the player with the ball to avoid them passing or dribbling forward, forcing them to play under pressure of time and space.

7v7(+2) Conditioned game (25 mins)

Set Up:

Use a little more than half the field. Create zones as shown in the diagram. Play 5v5 in the central zone in the attacking half (red team is attacking in the diagram).

There are two neutral players, one on either side representing outside backs. Either team can play to neutral players on the outside. Neutra players are limited to 2-3 touches.

Two players from each team stay in the middle zone near the the halfway line. If blue win the ball they look to play into the one of the high players or drive into the space to score.

The red team must play to their #9 before they can score.

Secondary objective for the red team is to react quickly when they lose the ball to prevent the blue team from playing out to high players or prevent them from playing forward.

- Red team must be prepared to recover and pressure from behind if the blue team is in fact able to play out.
