- Wingers should aim to stop infield pass and should prevent goals being scored in small goals

4 Defenders (Reds) in 2-1-1 formation
5 Attackers (Blues) in GK-2-2 formation
Set of balls inside the goals (where the GK is)
Note: There is a Target Man for Attackers (T)
Instructions: Start play from the Goalkeeper and then Blues combine in order to get the ball to Target Man (T). When that happen T play a unopposed pass to Blues and is not allowed to go beyond any defending member.
Progressions:
- Defending team is advised to shoot after 5 passes.
Coaching Points:
Coaching the individual
- Pressure on the ball
- Get in line
- Put the brakes at the correct distance
- Body position
- Stay on toes (ball of feet)
- Be patient (in particular the Striker)
- Slow attackers down/jockey
- Decision to win the ball (can you win it?)
- Distance of second defenders
- Don't cross legs when moving
- Tracking players
- Know when to pressurize and when to drop off
- Win 100% of the ball
Coaching the unit
- Press Centre Backs after they enter our defensive half
- When pressing show outside, but try to screen the unit in behind and stop the switch
- Striker and number 10 try to play in opposite halves
- The units should not be further than 6 yards apart
- Avoid being alongside with other units (be in angles!)
- Look to swoop the relationships between defending players (one press, the other covers)
- When Striker is defending Centre Backs, Number 10 to stay as close as possible to Red line to stop forward pass to Target Man.
- Two Midfielders in Reds should aim to be a yard close to direct opponent and should also ball being played to target man
- Shuffle across as a unit when the attackers switch possession to other side
- When ball is played over the top, Reds to drop off immediately and Number 10 should try to recycle possession if Blue Midfielders have a poor touch
- When ball is played backwards by Blue team, then Reds use that as an opportunity to move up on the field
