Introduction (10 mins)

Organization:

  • One ball for each pair
  • 30x30

Instructions:

  • Players start behind the line and run to the ball to receive the pass. Turn with the ball and  dribble back to the red line. Then pass to the other player as they take turns.
  • 2 minute cycles of passing and receiving with a specific part of the foot. Ball mastery 
  • Each pair must count how many rounds they complete in each cycle to identify the winner team

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • How quickly can we slow down to receive the ball or change direction with the ball?
  • Can we deliver a weighted pass with precision to our teammate so they can show off their agility, balance, and coordination?
  • Do I need to have small quick touches or can I possibly dribble like CR7 when Im racing to get back to the reset line?

Regressions/Progressions:

  • Progression, ask the players to do a step over, pull back, or any skill for an extra count. 
  • Assign a different specific part of the foot for receiving and passing.

2v1's (15 mins)

Organization:

  • 2v1 
  • one ball
  • 20x10
  • Reset on each out of play ball with each player starting by the goals. 

Instructions:

  • The players in the team of two must use one specific part of the foot to pass the ball, for instance, only using the inside, outside or the laces of the foot to pass and receive.
  • The team of 2 must dribble the ball past the red end line 
  • There is offsides
  • One point for crossing the line with the ball for the team of 2
  • The solo defender gets two point for an interception or a kick out, 2 extra points for scoring in any of the goals. 

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • How can we pass and move to create space and time
  • When do we use containing first touch vs positive touch into space?

Regressions/Progressions:

  • For progression we can make the space bigger or smaller. Bigger would make it harder for the defender and smaller field makes it harder for the offensive 2
  • We can also progress by having the team of two scoring in the pugs as the defender can shift to crossing the red line with the ball for extra points. 
  • For regression we can do this activity using only hands. no offside rule. We can add natural players on the white line as wingers.

Conditioned game (20 mins)

Organization:

  • 4v4 in the middle and 1v1 on the wing channels 
  • One ball
  • Two goals
  • 30x20
  • No goal keepers 

Instructions:

  • Teams must complete 5 passes before scoring 
  • Players on the wing channel can switch anytime as long as one player is in the channel
  • An assist from the wing channel scores 2 extra points

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • How can we pass and move using our wings? Do we always have to move forwards or can we also move backwards? Side to side even?
  • When do we use the contained trapping/ first touch vs positive touch/ push the ball into space?

Regressions/Progressions:

  • Allow a player from the out of possession team to get into the channels if needed. 
  • Teams must have all their players across the line to score a goal

Match (15 mins)

Organization:

  • 6v6
  • One ball

Instructions:

  • Communicate with specific direction, i.e., man on from the left, two coming at you, reset, you have me on your right or left, calling out the overloads in numbers for the player with ball

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Check over the shoulders for recognitions and considerations of choices, on and off the ball
  • Decide and follow through
  • Mistakes are plenty and so are opportunities, next one is better and we move on.
