4v4+4 Rondo (20 mins)

Set up: (12 players)

20'x30' area with 4v4+4 as shown. Object is for team in possession (Red to start) to maintain that possession with assistance from the reds. Play intensely for 5-10 minutes, then swap teams (greens go outside, black come inside to defend). Repeat.

*If an extra player they can have a 'play-maker' role in the midle and link up with the team that has possession*

Coaching points:

- Quick decisive movement by the outside players and supporting 2, and the inside 'play maker'.

- Create space to receive pass.

- Open body shape to receive.

- Defenders stay compact, move as a unit to cut off passing lanes.

Progression:

-Rather than play for a fixed time, incorporate a transition: when greens win the ball, they quickly distribute to a black, then swap places with the reds and continue in possession until black win the ball back.

Red and Blue start against Yellow. Whichever team loses the ball switches to defence and the other two teams now work together to get possession.

Play a 6 v 6 + 2 neutral players. Neutral players always play with team in posession.

Each team can score 1 POINT if could create combination plays and keep posession ( 6-10 consecutive passes) , by moving the ball in all 4 quadrants of the field.

Play free to start with , then introduce restriction 2-3 touches, play quick etc.

Coaching points:

- play calm, keep the ball

- support (short and long), always create 2 options to pass to

- use the space ( field), width and depth

- play to feet or space, move ball quickly

- communication, verbal, message in the pass etc.
