Description

We have done some work on attacking play. We are seeing some of this come through in our game day play but no enough. I felt after the last few games that our issue is moving the ball up the pitch quickly has been holding back our ability to penetrate through teams. We play dribble the ball across the pitch slowing the play down and allowing the opposition time to regroup.

Lead In

What

Focus for this is down the left hand side of the pitch with the area opening up to give some more space to attack the goal.  I want to see us get the ball up the pitch quickly and by cutting off the half will stop our players running sideways across the pitch without having to play the ball forwards.

Principals of Play

*Communication to the player on the ball

*Move into space with angle to receive

*First Touch – Quality and close.

*Want the ball, check your shoulder.

*Relax in possession, pick your head up

*Find the easy passes, play the way your facing

*Release the ball quickly, within 3 touches.

Forwards or wide

Sideways if its on,

Backwards if no support

How

Play to start from the half way line when the back 2 blues cross the blue line, so play starts high enough up the pitch to create the space that is realistic to a game.

A blue player can push into engage with the starting red on the ball. this will trigger the red to play the ball in one of the 3 pictures.

The Red on the bottom side of the red cones is free to move up and down the play but is locked into the area outside the play.

If blues are in possession can they just get the ball back over the half way line.

Primary players

Red's - Luke /Joy, Junior, Ed, Elrad, Max

Secondary players

Blues - Efosa, Daniel, Joy, Lasana

Technical

Decision making - Blue in possession to either dribble forwards keeping the ball close to him , but looking to play into a midfielder in space quickly.

Receiving player to be checking shoulder so the space is there.

First touches need to good, head up and looking for the next ball.

Choice of pass, does it need an over the top pass into space or is there a gap to play a driven pass for Elrad to run on to.

Speed to be able to make the run away from the defender.

Tactical - What if

Starts with Out of possession, chasing back looking for the trigger of transition.

Forwards need to track the play on the side of the pitch the ball is in play.

Left midfielder needs to up on playing on the shoulder of the right back.

can he pick the ball up inside the right back and drive for goal, or wide enough if the ball is long and high to get in behind the defence.

First touches need to good, head up and looking for the next ball.

Choice of pass, does it need an over the top pass into space or is there a gap to play a driven pass for Max to run on to.

Tactical -

Max as the forward needs to pull away from the defense, to receive.

The midfield then need to be communicating positions, the triggers are dependant on which way he receives the ball. is it s give and go with midfield or a lay off to Elrad into the space

Tactical -

Left back is able to run the ball out, so Elrad pulls out the touchline to give the width, while J and Ed call the ball inside to create a distraction. Max stays inside creating space for Elrad to run 1v1.
