Progression-
Join all the players together (both drills) and add passive 75% defenders (take out mannequins if a defender is in that position), First 2 defenders are added in the middle 3rd, then add 2 more defenders in the defensive 3rd, Last defenders are added to the area the #2 7 #5 are located, waiting player moves to position vacated by the #3 or #4 depending on what side of the pitch is being worked on, GK’s rotate.
Players movement through the drill will mimic the passing pattern of the first drill
Rotate defenders every 90 seconds.

Organisation –
40m x 40m
8 Balls
Flat cones
8 x Blue bibs
8 x Red bibs
2 x GK’s are in the drill as outfield players
Explanation –
Ball always starts with the coach
4 v 4 in the grid plus 4 bouncers for each team (as per diagram)
BP players in the grid play the bouncer and then swap positions with the bouncer
BPO side look to win the ball back with pace
2 minutes play with a 30 second active rest then repeat
Progression –
1 – Make pitch bigger or smaller
2 – Limit touches
Team Tasks-
Can you retain possession and create an opportunity to bring a bouncer into the grid?
Player Tasks-
Can you position your body to be level or outside your defender?
Can you make a run that won’t take the space from the advancing bouncer?
Can you play a forward pass?
Coaching Cues –
When you are in a position to receive the ball ensure you are level or beyond your defender (off the shoulder) so you can play a forward pass or drive forward with the ball
If you are swapping with the bouncer ensure you don’t run towards the bouncer and crowd his space

Organisation –
Half Pitch x 70m
Wide zone from side line to 18 yard box x 70m
8 Balls
Flat cones
7 x Blue bibs plus 1 x GK Bib or shirt
7 x Red Bibbs plus 1 x GK Bib or shirt
2 x full sized goals
Explanation –
8 v 8
Red Team – GK, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 & 10
Blue Team – GK, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11
Both sides are attempting to score in full sized goals
Play starts mostly with Red GK but at also at different points at the coach’s discretion
2 Red players only allowed in each wide zone (as per diagram)
No restriction on Blue players in wide zones
Team Tasks –
Can we play out from the back and get the ball into the middle third with controlled possession?
Player Tasks –
#3 or #4 Can you split and then show to receive the ball from the GK?
#3 or #4 Can you receive the ball and drive forward?
#6 or #8 Can you position yourself to receive the ball and distribute to the #2 or #5 by dropping into the space created by the #3 & #4 splitting?
#10 Can rotate with the #6 or #8 and show for the ball from the GK?
GK Can you play directly to the #2 or #5 if no other options available?
#10 Can you position yourself to distribute the ball to the #2 or #5 with speed?
#3 or #4 can you start narrow and rotate with the #6 or #8?
Coaching Cues –
When the GK has the ball that is the cue for the #3 & #4 to split to the edge of the 18 yard box or wider
When the #3 or #4 split can 1 of you show for the ball and drive forward after receiving the pass
When the #3 or #4 show for the ball, the #6 or #8 must split to create the space for the #3 or #4 to drive into
If the #3 and #4 split and have their passing lane blocked (or marked) then this is the cue for the #6 or #8 to feint a run then drop into the space created by the #3 and #4 to receive the ball and either drive forward or distribute to a free player
If the #3 and #4 split and have their passing lane blocked or marked then we should be also looking for the possibility of the #8 running towards the GK, feint their run and run back in a rotation run with our #10 who takes the space and receives the ball to either play forward or distribute into wide areas
If the #3 or #4 are stuck narrow we require the #6 or #8 to drop in the wide zone
If there are no passing lanes open then the GK is to look to play directly to the high and wide #2 and #5

Player who receives the final pass receives the ball then feints to beat the mannequin before hitting a passive shot to the GK’s chest and then the GK repeats the pattern and plays the ball to the #3
Follow your pass
Progression –
1 – Change the direction (#4 starts with the ball)
2 – Change the passing pattern i.e.- the #6 or #8 show for the ball from the GK, #6 or #8 plays to the #2 who bumps to the #3, the #3 plays to the #10 etc.
