Hunters (10 mins)

Hunters: In a group of approximately 12 players, 8 players would have a ball and the other 4 will not have a ball. On the coaches signal the “dribblers” will dribble in the grid trying to stay away from the “Hunters” who do NOT have a ball. The “Hunters” try to take a ball from the “dribblers”. If a “dirbbler’s” ball is stolen, the dribbler then instantly becomes a Hunter and the Hunter that stole the ball becomes the new dribbler. Play two or three rounds and encourage high energy from the Hunters to get to the player dribbling.

Use multiple fields have players play 1v1 to gates. start with

dribble through gate to score. Initiate game by defender passing

ball into attacker, switch sides after a few minutes so that both

teams get a chance to attack.

Game is a variation of 1v1 to gates. instead place two large

triangles on the field (the nearside defesive triangle should be

slightlylarger than the farside attacking group's triangle. playstarts

with a defender playing a pass into the farside triangle and

sprinting to defend. He gets 3 points for containing the attacker

and keeping them inside the triangle. if she breaks out of the

triangle, that is ok, theycan get 2 points for keeping them OUT of

their own, nearside triangle. if the attacker gets past the defender

and makes his wayinto the nearside triangle, the defender can

still recover and retain a point for keeping the attacker from

crossing the endline on the dribble. if the dribbler carries the ball

over the endline, the defender gets 0 points.

Similarly, the attacker has incentive to take a positive first touch

and exit the triangle quicklyfor a point, if he is able to get into the opponent's triangle, he receives 2 points. if he can get across the

endline on the dribble, 3 points.

Coaching points:

- Pressure forcing one wayto make play predictable

- eyes on ball

- angled stance, light on feet

- proper times of engagement (attaker big touch or mistake)

- engage the attackers body upon big touch (and step in between)

- angled approach to the ball to force dribbler wide, footwork (shuffling at angle to keep it wide)

- if beaten draw a "J" in the grass to recover goalside

-3 good times to win the ball: 1. big touch 2. head down 3. back turned

Facilitate the game and help with positions, positioning, and game format. Facilitate a basic scrimmage with a goalkeeper and six field players. Allow the kids to “PLAY” but give guidance when necessary. Use a “coaching in the game” approach to emphasize the topics from this week’s training. Be sure to use the labeled names for the positions!

Coaching Points:

•Can you win the ball back right away?

•Get back behind the ball quickly (between ball and your goal)
