Learning Objectives

Technical Technical
Receiving - Awareness of where the defender has moved to. Facing forwards with open body shape to play forwardsBall Movement - Positive first touch into space away from the defender. Release - In this instance, players are asked to drive across the line. (i.e No release required)

Receiving to Run with the ball / Attack Space (20 mins)

Organisation / Set Up:

  • Area set up with players lined up at opposite end of the area. The area has three gates in the middle.
  • Player on attacking team passes ball into the area to the receiving player who is already in the area.
  • The receiving player is facing the player passing them the ball and must receive on a half turn to then play forwards.
  • As the pass is made in; the defensive player steps in to the area to block one of the gates.
  • The receiving player must then make a decision on which gate to drive through; in which they drive through it and into the other half of the area and across the end line.
Progressions
  • Start with defensive player only blocking a gate - not engaging into a 1v1 duel.
  • Increase the difficulty by having the defensive player run through a gate before they can engage in a 1v1 duel; BUT they cannot win the ball once the play is through a gate.
