Try and create 11v11 on 3/4's of the pitch with numbers from both age groups (Adapt depending on numbers). Focus on key principles of play as shown above.
- Create numbers up situations in build up to break through defensive lines.
- Work on rotations between positions. If building in a 3-4-3/ 3-5-2 also touch on transitions between shapes. Must defend in a 4-4-2.

Technical Passing & Receiving (Build Up)
Technical Build Up Play
Different Combinations
- Start off with the drill on the left
- A passes to B who received back foot, passes front foot in front for C
- C receives back foot down the line and then passes into target goal (If no target goal use the player at the back of the line)
The first progression (not shown in diagram would be C setting the ball back for B who then plays a one-two around the cone for C.
Next progression as shown on the right.
- D plays to E who sets it back for D
- D then plays to F who sets inside one touch for E who then plays a one-two with F around the cone (all one touch)
This should be intense and sharp from the start. 3 Minute rounds and then switch so the players then pass and receive on the other foot (6 minute round total) then progress.
Coach should demand the quality of pass, the speed of pass, receiving on the correct foot, passing on the correct foot and players movement away from the cone before they receive.
