Organisation
High Press Activity
Create a Grid 50x30 yards.
2 x 20 yard halves and 1 x 10 yard end zone.
2 mini goals on one side with 15 yard between. Endzone on end of other half.
Players will start just behind midway point for defending team (orange).
Attacking players start deep in own end (blue).
Instructions
Ball is played in by coach and orange team presses as quickly as possible as ball travels, blue attempts to penetrate past orange and to score on small goals. Orange team is attempting to press at speed and cause a turnover.
Coaching points:
Pressing: looking to press when possible (communication, distance of support)
Body positioning
Angle of approach
Speed of press
Aggression and willingness to physically press
Communication between teammates
Understanding when to hold if support is not there
Which way to show opponent? inside or outside? Depends on where support is located.
Counter: after winning ball, speed of play to counter and catch other team by surprise
Head up to see support players, looking to get width and depth
Willingness to play forward as quickly and as soon as possible to not allow blue to recover
1 point for getting into end zone defenders
1 point for goals on nets
Switch roles after each group gets 3-4 reps each
Progressions
1. If orange team gain possession, they have 10 secs to dribble the ball into the end zone.
2. If the orange team gain possession in the blues half, and thereafter dribble into the end zone ,they score 3 points- if, however, possession is gained in the orange half and they then score, only 1 point is awarded - to encourage a high press.

SSG 4 grid (20 mins)
4 Grid Game 30 x 30 yards split into 4 squares
4-6 players in each grid (adjust grid size accordingly)
Blue team is diagonal on grid
Orange team diagonal as well
Team starts with ball and attempts to put together 3 passes and then to send ball to other side of grid where other oranges are. Defending team is focusing on pressing the ball as fast as possible. Focus is to deny time and space, forward play and penetrating passes through channels to other side. IF the attacking team is successful in sending ball through 4 new defending players enter into the grid, two from each grid.
Players will be coming from both grids to focus on angles of approach, see teammates positioning as well and to get to ball first or quickly into support positions. This must be done as fast as possible and speed of press is #1. Once ball is won players will restart with new attacking group.
