Description
Some of the practices delivered to the Sheffield & Hallamshire Coaches Association on Monday 27th March 2017.
The practices were geared towards grassroots coaches & the problems of limited space, odd numbers etc that they face.
Whilst some technical coaching points were given, I have deliberately left them out as you will need to coach from what you know and what you see with your players.

How to Play
2 of the 3 servers start with a ball.
Play starts with a pass to the working player.
He receives and plays to the player without a ball in 1 or 2 touches.
The next server plays the next pass and play continues.
Progression

Circle Work

Passing & receiving.
Goalkeeping - handling & distribution.
How to Play
Outfield players are stationed around the outside of a circle.
2 goalkeepers in the middle.
Players can pass to the next player, who "shoots" towards one of the keepers.
The keeper fields the "shot", then distributes to the outside to another player.
Progressions
Different types of distribution from the keeper.
Combinations around the circle (Pass-set-shot, pass-overlap-shot, takeovers, foot on etc).
Play with 2 balls.

Circle Work 2

Combination play.
How to Play
3 players in the middle, numbered 1-3. Play a maximum of 2-touch.
Combinations or straight passes from the outside.
First pass has to be received by No.1, he plays to 2 then to 3 before passing to an outside player.
Repeat from the next outside player.
Encourage creative/disguised passes.
Progression
Add a second ball as soon as Player 1 has made the first lay-off.

Throw, Head, Catch
Focus
Team work.
Passing and receiving skills.
Heading.
How to Play
2 teams try to attack the opposition goal and must use the Throw, Head, Catch sequence (including interceptions).
Goals must be scored with headers.
Progressions
Throw - one touch - catch (the one touch can be with any part of the body).
Goals can only be scored with both feet off the floor.

Shooting Game

How to Play
2 teams split with 4 in the defending half & 2 in the attacking half.
GK plays out into his own half & they have to try & work a shooting opportunity.
Forwards look for deflections/rebounds.
Progressions/Variations
Play into a striker, then join the attacking half.
Dribble into the attacking half to create a 3v4.
Add a wide player on each side who plays for both teams to provide crosses.
Allow the wide player to drive inside to make a 3v4.
