Summer ODP Week 8 1st session (10 mins)

Set Up

 

Set up a rectangular grid with a safety zone in each corner. All players need soccer balls.

 

Instructions

Players randomly dribble throughout the grid, then on the coaches signal they rush to get into one of the safe zones. The last player to make it to a safe zone must perform an exercise such as jumping jacks or air squats to get back into the game.

 

Another variation would be that each round the last player to make it to a safe zone is out and can work on juggling on the side until there is only one player left.

 

 

Coaching Points

Make sure that players are not hovering around the safe zones and that they are randomly dribbling throughout the grid. Coaches can specify things like weak foot only or outside of the feet only. This game also works well with music. When the music stops, that would be the signal for players to find a safe zone.

Quick dribbling using the Outside of the Foot

 

In this exercise the players run with the ball pushing it quickly with the outside of the foot only. The exercise helps act of dribbling and changes of direction. Emphasise the extension of the foot with the tip pointing down.

 

Emphasis

Focus on using both the outside of both feet.

Players staying on their toes

Knees bent

Being in control of the soccer balls and not having players chase the soccer ball

Summer ODP Week 8 1st session (15 mins)

Speed, moves, 1v1, Passing and Receiving

Purpose

To improve Change of Direction moves and speed with limited pressure defending

 

Set up

Two teams form lines opposite one another in a 10 10 aread. Four 3 yard gate goals are placed on the perimeter of the area.

 

Depending on numbers set up two grids, to keep players focused

Instructions

1v1 play begins with a pass from the defender. Defender provide limited pressure to close down space, and the attackers must use Change of Direction Moves - single and combinations, remind players of their Moves of thw Week. The attackers must dribble through of the small goals to score.

 

Progression

Coaches can instruct players to use specific move sets and to use their crfeativity. Encourage players to use different goals on each attempt.

 

Players Tips:

When receiving attacker's first touch should be directed away from the pressure. Use body to protect the ball from pressure. USe of speed after a move is critical.

Coaches may adjust the size of the area based on the ability of the players

Small Sided Games 2v2 3v3

Ensure coaches have plenty of soccer balls on hand to maintain the temp of the game

Rotate to ensure all players play in 2v2 and 3v3 game sitution

 

Set Up

Set up two fields 20m x 15 m with goals at each end.

 

Emphasis

High tempo

This is a free game which should stimulate expression, initiative and the creativity of the players.

Encourage the players to take each other on and run into space to score.

The aim is develop their technique and individual tatical play

Encourage players to use the dribbling techniques they have learnt.
