  • Players rotate roles after a period of time and repeat practice.

Progressions:

  • Coach may vary overload depending on numbers and the level of ability of individual players.

Technical Coaching Points:

  • Early decision to shoot from distance or move nearer to goal before the strike.
  • Be decisive and take risks against defenders when moving with the ball forward. Look for finishing rebounds.
  • Minimise controlling touches prior to shooting.
  • Players need to remain balanced going as fast as they can and remaining accurate.
  • Remain aware of where the goal is when going through the cones.
  • Shorten the stride pattern when striking the ball.
  • Try and open the goal up by opening your body (adjust your hips), curl around GK or flat foot it to near post.
  • Demonstrate how to beat the GK (techniques to use).

Tactical Coaching Points:

  • Attacker’s scan to assess position and movement of defenders.
  • Quickly move into goal-scoring range.
  • Evaluate which attacker is best position to score and either take shot or pass.
  • Look to eliminate defenders with individual skill move or clever movement off ball.
  • Assess position of GK. Area can be modified, depending on age and ability of the players.
  • Coaches can use moments to demonstrate the importance of timing and accuracy of pass to other attacker.
